The first time we visited this tarn was in autumn. We considered it a romantic and picturesque place. Not least as Beatrix Potter and her husband, apparently liked to walk there in the evening. We took the route from the playground in Near Sawrey and walked down to it from the fellside field. We were surprised that it was not more widely publicised as a beautiful place to visit. Now, in May, it was outshined by nearby Wise Een Tarn. Though still worth a visit.

A nice hike from the ferry house Windermere west shore up to New Sawrey then to Moss Eccles tarn a quiet & peaceful place we continued to Claife heights then back for the ferry via Far Sawrey about 10.75 miles. A sunny day so fabulous scenery. Good paths throughout & well sign-posted too. the highlight of the walk was Wise Een tarn a shallow tarn backed by stunning fells.

Recovering broken ankle (12 weeks later) so sought an easy walk. This from Near Sawry to the Tarn took about 30 mins. Very straightforward stoney path. No traffic en route. Beautiful peaceful Tarn. Swimmable if that's your thing.

Pleasant walk up to Moss Eccles Tarn up Cuckoo Brow lane. Footpath does go through farmland and then you can decide whether to keep the tarn on your left or right. Going right takes you up past another tarn and then onto Claife Heights. Left leads you...
