Update: What a condescending reply! I have videos of the car I'm competing with not staged yet and the lights have gone green! It didn't used to be like that, you were given good time to get stage ready years ago. Obviously you don't care about the public competing and move them on quickly as possible once at staging!
Expensive rip-off day!
Pretty awful for reasons below and shared by the other drag racers I spoke to.
1, RWYB - far too much priority to the professionals. We had to wait 1 to 1 and a half hours in-between runs!
2, Queue jumping. Organisers allow for the public to queue behind the professionals on the left hand queue lane. Once the professionals have run, they let the public from that lane to jump in front onto the two right hand queuing lanes! Very unfair!
3, Once it's finally your turn to set off, the lights change so quickly, giving you hardly any time to prepare for a good reaction time. Completely unfair. Seems they give the professionals all the time in the world but move the public on ridiculously quick.
4, Having visited after 21 years, they still don't have professional Tyre air machines like you do at petrol stations!!!!!!!!!! Obviously the drag strip users will be adjusting air pressures. They will lower to run and when the public cars are finished for the day, they will want to put it back to what it was. This is an additional revenue stream for Santa Pod and a big convenience for the Customers. Clearly, management doesn't think about these things.
5, Again after 21 years, why are there no giant screens around the venue and the queuing lanes specifically? At least let the customers be able to see live drag strip footage whilst they wait 1.5 hours to get on to use it. The screens need to be split screen. One camera for the start line position showing the rest of the strip towards the finish line and one to show the finish time display.
I do not recommend this drag...
Read moreMy partner and I planned a day out to Santa Pod to test out my now Stage 3 Audi S4 and it's safe to say we were so excited. Firstly, upon entering the gate, there was absolutely no explanation of where to go from the steward, no map given, and no discussion on sign-on etc.
When we finally got into the queue, this is where to big issue started. The person in front of me (who helped with directions etc) advised to go to sign on point and that I'd have approximately 15 minutes to do so given where I was in the queue. Well that queue ended up being over 1 hour of standstill traffic. As it turns out, with no forewarning from the Santa Pod team, it seemed there was a bike event on where ALL bikers were allowed to effectively queue jump. What a joke. Whilst it's understood there may be events on occasionally, the issue here is Santa Pod did not advise this at the point of sale nor the point of entry. Add to that, the fact that the tickets totalled ~£100, it seems crazy to be not given equal opportunity to the track.
So, all in all, we embarked on a 6 hour round trip (from Kent) to sit in 3 hours worth of queues, and only manage to get 2 quarter mile runs in. The biggest shame, thanks to being sat still in a queue for so long, the gearbox and tyres cooled down dramatically and meant my runs were 1-2 seconds slower than expected. As it turns out I had more fun on the A1 back home, which would've been a hell of a lot cheaper!
I have to be honest, I could not recommend RWYB to anyone, unless they have an eyemask and some earplugs and managed to take a nap in the very...
