Route Planner 1 (Quickest) Google Maps to Butterstone Avenue Hartlepool and this is a new housing estate and you will see Steetley Pier to the right and a footpath to the beach & Pier before you come to the first set of houses. Navigation from here is easy.
There are no parking restrictions here so its best to park along this stretch where you're not directly outside somebody's home.
⏳Few Minutes
Route Planner 2: Google Maps to Marine Drive Hartlepool.
This will take you to the Beachfront with a Promenade with parking options on the wide pavement or along the road & preferably not directly outside someone's house. You will see Steetley Pier in the distance.
Walk along the Promenade with a ramp or steps to Headland Beach.
⏳25-30 Minutes From Beach
Low & High Tide
My journey here was June 2024 and it was a warm summer morning, so in good weather this Beach doesn't get completely submerged by the tide as I saw the dry sand.
However there is an area of cliff that sticks out and that possibly gets submerged at high tide and I would expect the whole beach to be completely submerged in high tide in bad weather.
PLEASE CHECK TIDE TIMES
Also there are some rocks you have to navigate through which is no issue.
Follow these routes and you will get there. There are other routes to get there but they were very unclear to me and I have used both of these routes to get there with no issues.
Steetley Piers Potential Demolition
I have read that talks have been held over its demolition and campaigns have been launched to save it. At time of writing this I have no idea what's happening.
Everyone I know has never heard of Steetley Pier so this needs to be made more publicly known and money should be raised to save it.

Read moreLovely quiet beach, we parked here no problem, outside the graveyard/nature reserve then walked through to clifftops. However it's a bit of a descent to the beach from the top so be ready for that, and a harder walk back up 😂! But it was worth it. I've lived in the North East all my life and this was the first time I've ever been here. Took our dogs too and they loved it, however I did find some rusty spike things pointing out from the sand near the pier so please be careful around that area as I'm sure they could cause some nasty damage😩 the beach itself was clean enough to walk barefoot but be vigilant for bits of old metal etc around pier area. Will definitely be going back...
Read moreWhat a fantastic find! I'm a professional landscape photographer and came across this by accident. Returning early morning to perfect lighting and low tide/pristine golden sand, I spent several hours here. Access to the actual pier deck is, of course, not possible but the timber work and location make this fascinating. This is enhanced by its location upon a reasonably quiet, sandy beach at the top of which are sand dunes. A must-visit for photographers, artists and those interested in...
