Amazing spot! We walked to Lingcove Bridge and the waterfalls and it was one of the best family walks we did in the Lakes. We parked in a small lay-by on the main road by Brotherilkeld Farm (the farm itself is private, so don’t block the gates). From there it’s really straightforward: follow the public footpath that skirts the farm and keep the River Esk on your left the whole way up the valley. Don’t cross the first little bridge on the left — just stay on the same side of the river and the stony path leads you all the way to the bridge and the falls.

The walk is beautiful from the first five minutes: clear, green pools, mini-cascades, and those big valley views ahead. On a hot day the water is crystal clear and perfect for cooling off. There are loads of options along the way — shallow paddling spots for little ones, gentle flowing pools for a quick dip, and deeper sections further up if you want a proper wild swim. I had a long, refreshing swim and it was absolute heaven.

We did an out-and-back from the farm to the waterfalls and back, which is ideal for families. The longer circular routes up here look amazing but are much bigger days out and not really family-friendly. Sticking to the valley path keeps the effort reasonable while still giving you the best scenery and the most swim stops.

Lingcove Bridge itself is a gorgeous old stone arch and a great turning point. The water above and below the bridge is stunning, and the whole place has that quiet, unspoilt feel. Take sturdy shoes (it’s rocky in places), bring towels, swimming clothes obviously and a picnic whit some snacks and sandwiches. Go early on sunny weekends or late afternoon. We start the route around 3pm and arrived back to our car around 7pm in the summer you will have plenty of light until 9pm. Five stars from us! we’ll definitely return! Please note: if you come from Ambleside area, the road there are extremely narrow and will take you there from the mountain area which is extremely dangerous to drive. If you have fear of heights - this drive is not for you and you will have to come from the south which is way more...

Beautiful place to visit. There is a reasonably flat walk along side the river and one higher up that was a little bit more of an uphill. There is certain points along the track where there are mini falls that are beautiful to just sit also there was a pocket were i got in and it was deep enough for me to have a swim in Would recommend anyone to go and have a wander around that area. The water is so clear but very cold, worth a visit for spectacular photographs of natural beauty. Maybe even...

This is a very beautiful, easy and quite flat hike with plenty of blue water spots along the stream for a dip on a warm sunny day. Takes about 1 hour up to the bridge if no stopovers. We came across many families with little kids so easy hike for even very young kids. The ground at many spots can be boggy especially with recent wet weather so make sure you have good footwear to combat it. Parking is along the road n free but is limited. Overall highly...

Beautifully delicate arch (hurrah for mathematics) marks the fork at the head of the Esk Valley. Renowned for its swimming/jumping pools (or pots), it's an easy three kilometre hike from the foot of the legendary Hardknott Pass (those poor Romans) but parking is a nightmare and something a bit more study than flip flops is required. In the last few years it has become increasingly busy, one of the curses of its beauty and fun.
