We parked up in the public carpark and paid £5. That gives you a ride on the courtesy bus to the start of the trail. There's 3km of rough gravel paths to the start of the boardwalk. Then around 3km of boardwalk and stairs. When we were going up the stairs on of them was missing. We were able to step over it and on up to the viewing deck at the summit. On the way down we were watching out for the missing step. Unfortunately they were unknown to us repairing the step from below and had put it back in place but not attached. I walked onto it and fell through. Actually ended up on top of the guy who was fixing it. Ripped my new walking trousers and cut my legs badly in four places. Ended up in Hospital a week later with a bad infection, tetanus injections etc..... wonderful. So my reviews of the walk are slightly tainted! Apart from this however, it's an amazing walk, beautiful views, well...
Read moreThis is an amazing place. I'm amazed that someone put it there and, I'm amazed that I took it on and got to the top. But I'm glad I did it all the same.
I'm not a seasoned hiker.
It's a very long 7. 5 kms walk/climb on some loose gravel track for the first 6 kms and wooden elevated boardwalk and stairway over the last 1. 5 kms so wear hiking boots.
The car park is loose gravel too.
There are 3 seating benches along the entire route, which are not always available when you want them, because other walkers are having a rest, so bring a light folding stool if you think you might want to rest throughout an entire 15km walk.
There are wooden stiles to cross at closed gates along the way which can also be used for seating if no one else wants to cross them.
The sense of achievement on getting to the top is fantastic. Bring 3...
Read moreSuch a beautiful hike, it was a bit challenging because I was overdressed and the weather was hot. But super rewarding view at the top. If you’re not used to hiking, this might be a bit challenging. Bring plenty of water! Not water or washrooms at the end of the hike and through out the hike. The trails starts out as gravel and towards the end it becomes a boardwalk and a few flights of stairs near the top. Expect to be here 2-3 hours if your fast, 3-4 if you don’t do hikes a lot.
There are 2 different parking spots, one by the entrance of the actual hike and one a bit further out before the cave entrance. There are restrooms at the farther...
