The monument itself is not open yo the public, but the platform on which it stands is. There is a small parking area. The monument is a piece of Victorian Gothic fantasy in memory of Sir Tatton Sykes. It is not particularly fine when seen close up, but has two sculpted panels and an inscription. A notice giving details of its history is currently attached to the railings. The main reason to visit is the view to the south, taking in Beverley, Hull and on a clear day the south Bank of the Humber. Read moreA tall beautiful monument, built 150 years ago. How they did it? Who knows. The structure is surrounded by a small fence that just prevents people from touching it. Aside from the monument itself, there's not much to see, but it is the Yorkshire countryside, and there is a public footpath nearby, allowing the monument to be a suitable start/end location that's visible from miles around.
