A fantastic castle with spectacular views! Across the road from the castle is a decent sized car park with dedicated picnic spots.
Once you cross the road you will be faced with a long, steep narrow path up the hill the castle is set upon. This makes the entire inaccessible if you are in a wheelchair and probably quite inaccessible if you have another form of mobility issue. Be aware that the path is lined with thistles and covered in sheep poo so wear appropriate clothing & footwear.
Once you do make it up to the summit you will be blown away by stunning views of the surrounding countryside. There are a number of informative plaques dotted around which provide fascinating information on the life of the castle as well which is always welcome.
All in all, if you are interested in Welsh history, castles or just want a good walk with amazing views then this is for you. It could just do with some improvements being made to enable access to everyone...

You can park your car or van in the picnic area carpark, it's sheltered with woods. cross the road and start walking up the hill, its been well looked after with stone paths and concrete steps for most of the steepest part of the path.
its a great place to stretch your legs and the views can be breath taking, its a small hill in the middle of the Tywi valley,
You can see National Trust - Paxton's Tower, National Trust - Dinefwr Castle and top of Castell Carreg Cennen in the distance.
Highly recommend visiting and walking up the to the castle, there is information boards dotted around the site to help you understand more about...
Read moreThe remnants of a hilltop castle with a magnificent view across the valley floor on all sides. Whilst there's not a huge amount left standing, and it's a good workout to walk up to the top, it is worth it. The day I went the wind was quite strong, until you got into the remaining walls and then it became pleasantly warm. You can look across through the remaining walls and see Paxton's Tower on the ridge opposite (with the sun setting behind it in the fall), or scan all sides and see the river meandering through the valley. It's a marvel to see where a castle and town once thrived. Recommended, as there are lots of other things to do in the area so add this to...
