We were originally going to go to Fyvie Castle but on the discovery of the forced guided tour we looked elsewhere and found this gorgeous place.
This is a self guided castle but you do get an information sheet and there are guides throughout who you can talk to. We were greeted by Gillian this morning and she gave us a little quick tour before we set off up the stairs. She was so kind and very well informed. In the library there was another guide and he was a fantastic story teller, I could've stood there all day listening to him talk about the Fraser's, the wooden leg, the games, and the books.
The cafe was absolutely brilliant as well! I got an iced coffee and it's the best coffee I've had in Aberdeenshire! The ladies were lovely and really quick with our drinks. 10/10 service
Though the castle isn't the largest in the area, it has such a rich history, it's gorgeous, and there is so much to see. It's well worth the entry price!
The young lad in the gift shop was also really friendly and helpful!
The garden was absolutely gorgeous, and there was also a little veg stand before entry where you could donate money and get some gorgeous fresh vegetables. The radishes and peas were gorgeous ๐คฉ.
The only downside to this place is the fact that I kept getting wasps stuck in my hair (yes, I did panic and run despite how embarrassing it was ๐).
I would definitely bring family and friends here! Just an unreal day out! Every single member of staff we interacted with was lovely and they all deserve the highest praise! National Trust Scotland struck gold with these employees!!!
Thank you...
ย ย ย Read moreFriendly staff who were informative chatty. Carolyn was excellent with a depth of knowledge. David also made me smile too and was most informative! Really enjoyed being able to go up to the top of the castle and we got a helpful sheet of paper with info on order to go to rooms and how to get back down. If you have a wheelchair you will not be able to do all of this or if you have mobility issues then depending on how able you are there are a few flights of stairs and not big steps to negotiate. We got there at the back of 1-2 so by the time we had done the castle and been to the toilet (the one next to the car park had no hand wash and no toilet roll which I luckily brought my own loo roll!) We got to the cafe by the back of 3. There are cakes, refreshments and scones but sandwiches etc sold out. So go earlier than we did. We managed to do the walled garden too which was nice and not too big and some of the woodland walks too. Note that the children's playpark has been destroyed by the storms we had a bit ago. We bought a few things from the giftshop..the usual fridge magnet for each castle we visit and also I got a clans teatowel. Would have preferred if they had a tea towel of Castle Fraser but then that is my own personal choice!. We went Monday so just yesterday and was quiet Staff all friendly and helpful and recommend that you visit here for young and old! We have National Trust cards and also recommend buying these as you will save a lot of money if you are visiting a few places in the year and in the long run...
