If Buttermere is the more busy, Crummock is the more calm. I was alone for long periods around here, just me and Mellbreak. The scenery is gorgeous, with the greens contrasting as the clouds cast shadow upon the mountains, and the blues of a summer sky reflecting upon the water

The paths are a little wilder and rougher here, but it feels all the better for it. Like you really are one with the world, and have found a peace and flow to your day. Time stops here, and so should you, on the little penisula in the lake. Just enjoy the view, sometimes punctuated by the low flying military jets, or the calls of the birds far above your head

The bus does stop on the northern edge, and you can wander down to the lake after a little while, and walk on through to Buttermere to get refreshments and use the bathroom as needed. Crummock may feel like far away, but nothing is too far...

Beautiful 'lake' surrounded by some of Ciumbria's most stunning mountains such as Grasmoor and Mellbreak. Swimming is allowed, for kayaking and canoeing you can obtain a permit locally, check online for details. Good starting point to walk to Scale Force, a lovely high waterfall hidden away.....:) Also neighbours the Rannerdale Valley,, famous for its carpet of bluebells in mid to late spring. Easily accessible from Keswick in the North and Cockermouth or Workington in the West. Take care during lambing season, you may note the 'Tek care, lambs ont road' sign! Lovely little villages, such as Lorton, Loweswater and Buttermere close-by, and a few picturesque churches. A photographer's dream...

Crummock Water is an absolutely stunning and peaceful spot in the Lake District—perfect if you're looking to escape the crowds. Surrounded by dramatic fells like Grasmoor and Mellbreak, the views are breathtaking and the atmosphere is incredibly tranquil. There are some lovely walks around the lake, and the area is ideal for wild swimming, picnics, or just soaking in the scenery. Highly recommend if you want a quiet, natural experience in one of the most beautiful parts...

Often overlooked by people visiting Buttermere which is right next to the larger lake of Crummock Water, which is perhaps not as picturesque as Buttermere, unfortunately you can't get to the waters edge along the side with the road on, due to a lot of farmers fields running up the shoreline, however there are places to park and have a picnic or just enjoy the peace, the far side of the lake is a pleasant walk were you can get to the waters edge well worth a visit
