Dalquharran castle is a private residence built in the 18th century and abandoned in the 20th century. It sits on private land but visitors are not discouraged from going to view the 'castle' There is another older ruin nearby which is referred to as old Dalquharran Castle.

The site has been fenced off as the ruin is in poor repair and potentially hazardous. However there are several placed where it is easy to gain access, and many have done so merely to leave their graphical footprint (graffiti).

This does allow the curious minded to have a closer look around, but care should be taken as this is a ruin and there is a potential for falling stones, and broken floors. There is a considerable drop to the basements and the walls are not secured.

The stables across the courtyard have no access and are heavily boarded up. I was able to take a few overhead shots using a drone that show the interior of castle and stables. Well worth a visit as their is now cost, significant history and...

I visited Dalquharran in Aug. I live in the USA and have visited Scotland many times. Drove by the castle many times over the years but never got up close. I said this time I was going to get up close. Talked to a local and he said just walk up through the wheat field and into the woods. What a great surprise when I first laid my eyes upon it. A great old castle. Looks like it is ready to move into but for sure a ruin up close. I took a ton of pictures and just took in the greatness of it all. Too bad I could not get inside. Would be great to make it safe for the public to have a closer look. If I had the money I would buy it in a second. If I remember correctly did it burn back in the 70s? Seems like I saw it in flames one...

Lovely hidden gem. Such a beautiful castle. Shame it hasn't been restored to its former glory. Very peaceful short walk up to the castle (15 to 29mins). We parked near the village shop in Dailly and walked to the castle. Make sure you visit both castle ruins. Ask at the local shop for directions before starting your walk. The local shop sells lovely whippy ice cream. Highly recommend you visit this place if you are in the area. It looks beautiful in summer. People with walking difficulties and very small children may find it difficult to get to in poor wet weather. Castle is currently closed off from entering due to is poor state. So you can only view at it from outside.

The sister castle of Culzean and so sad to see it in such a state and all because the owner removed the roof to avoid paying taxes. As an Urbex we did go inside both the castle and the stables opposite and it is probably our favourite Castle Urbex with the exception of the amazing Oravský hrad (Nosferatu Dracula castle) in Slovakia! It is a great walk around the forests and the views are spectacular with lots of other castles and places to see nearby.
