Dalquharran castle is a private residence built in the 18th century and abandoned in the 20th century. It sits on private land but visitors are not discouraged from going to view the 'castle' There is another older ruin nearby which is referred to as old Dalquharran Castle.
The site has been fenced off as the ruin is in poor repair and potentially hazardous. However there are several placed where it is easy to gain access, and many have done so merely to leave their graphical footprint (graffiti).
This does allow the curious minded to have a closer look around, but care should be taken as this is a ruin and there is a potential for falling stones, and broken floors. There is a considerable drop to the basements and the walls are not secured.

Read moreI visited Dalquharran in Aug. I live in the USA and have visited Scotland many times. Drove by the castle many times over the years but never got up close. I said this time I was going to get up close. Talked to a local and he said just walk up through the wheat field and into the woods. What a great surprise when I first laid my eyes upon it. A great old castle. Looks like it is ready to move into but for sure a ruin up close. I took a ton of pictures and just took in the greatness of it all. Too bad I could not get inside. Would be great to make it safe for the public to have a closer look. If I had the money I would buy it in a second. If I remember correctly did it burn back in the 70s? Seems like I saw it in flames one...
Read moreOk so as someone who comes here quite a bit This castle is a perfect little day out for families there is two castles too adventure and see both accessible as of 2024 1st March the only thing really that you need to know is be safe when exploring it’s showing age and don’t let kids run of ahead to find the castle you want to park your car in daily next to the school you will see a path to your left take that down the track and you will see it in no time. not recommended for disabled or wheelchairs/buggy’s can also be a bit of a hassle the main castle is fenced off you will need to follow the right side around until you meet the other far side there will be a hole you can hop through please take rubbish...
