My 13 yo Yorkie has always enjoyed the freedom of running and playing off lead in public parks and on beaches, however, after recovering from a serious leg injury and now suffering from failing eyesight and hearing loss, he started to show signs of lack of confidence. I've taken him to our local park recently, which he knows well, and he tries to run straight back to our car. This pattern repeated itself no matter where I tried to walk him. I had him checked at the vets, and by a physio, for signs of pain but I was told he was physically fine. I put it down to anxiety and put him on a long lead on walks to keep him safe. But this made me feel sad as he always used to love to run free - which made me think of Dogwood Adventure Play! When my husband saw these pictures he said "Awww! He looks like his old self!" which was true. My dog must have known he was safe; he could run around and explore, sniff, and play without me hovering around him, adding to his stress. I pottered about, sat on the picnic bench or a log, he knew where I was so came to check in every now and again, but did his own thing and he loved it! I will definitely be booking more...
Read moreOh my goodness! Where do I begin? We have had our rescue husky Koda for 8 weeks now. He has a lot of energy and gets so excited when he sees other dogs (sometimes not in a good way) today we went to dogwood west, knowing that he wouldn’t see other dogs which meant he would stay nice and calm and it was amazing! It was the first time we have let him off the lead and was so interesting to see his reaction. To begin with my husband ran around with him almost to show him that he wasn’t attached to one of us. He stayed really close by and when he did ‘run away’ it was in a curve to run straight back to us! After a bit of a run around and play we then showed him around, got him to climb on the different things there (not much encouragement needed) he even jumped through a tyre! He loved the little tree area and had a great sniff of all the logs. By the end he was ran out and sniffed out and now I have one very content and tired boy! I’ve already booked another couple of sessions already! :D thank...
Read moreI've used Dogwood Adventure Play for many years. I first used it as our previous dog Schultz was dog reactive and this place was his opportunity to be off lead, play, have a good run around and for me not to be on constant alert when walking him. Also gave me the opportunity to do some training with him. His favourite bit was the pool. He was a real water baby and rushed to the gate every time no matter what the weather was. I've continued to use Dogwood for our new acquisition of Yogi. Yogi gets very excited and wants to meet every dog he goes past. Again this is his opportunity to be off lead, for me to do some training with him in a more relaxed environment. I don't think I could ever own a dog again and not have a Dogwood to go to. The facilities are great as it's not just empty fields and they upgrade and change things so dogs and humans alike don't get bored. If you've not been all I can say is give it a go. Nothing to lose but a...
