We love Esthwaite Water as it is quieter than many of the larger lakes. It is scenic and picturesque from several locations and well known place to watch ospreys, during the breeding saeson. There is parking in a couple of places, very close to the lake, for those who do not want to walk far. The car park on the south west side of the lake is owned, I believe, by Esthwaite Water Trout Fishery and there may be a charge for parking. Alternatively, there is a pull in, with room for 1 or 2 cars on the eastern side if the lake, opposite a path next to the lakeside. For those who don't mind road walking, it is possible to walk around the lake. It is a distance of about 5 miles and we usually walk it out if season - late autumn or winter, when there is less traffic. There are footpaths at the south end of the lake, up to the Trout Fishery, on the afformentioned lakeside path on the east side, and a footpath at the northeast side.

A lovely quiet lake, well worth a visit to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the larger lakes. Best place to go for parking if you want to be right by the lake side is Esthwaite Water Trout Fishery, there is a long stay car park about 100m up the road. You can then take the path from the car park to the boat house for some lovely coffee and buy some food to feed the ducks! There are beautiful scenic views across the lake and if you are so inclined, you can even hire a boat to head out on the water. Well worth a visit, we'll certainly be returning!

Quiet. Peaceful. Beautiful. Also, the cafe on the lake gave me the best cup of coffee I'd had all week. But best, best, best of all are the ducks. Buy a bag of duck food for a £1, sit on the wall, fill your hand with aforementioned duck food and wait for the chaos to begin! Possibly the best quid I have ever spent feeding loads and loads of ducks by hand. Marvelous 😀
