Wonderful park. We visited in April 2022. It was a nice sunny day. Felt like summer! They have an amazing play ground with lots of equipment and fun things for kids of all ages to do! There is a sand pit area as well, so be prepared to very dirty kids afterwards! They have different trails to follow and great things to see on the way and stop and play for a little. For example we stopped by the giant ants nest, following the green trail path. Kids absolutely loved it. We pretty much stayed for the whole day in this lovely country park. We had picnic in there. The annoying thing was the people setting up picnic and tents in the parking area. Not quite sure why you would do that... When there is plenty of space everywhere else! Anyway... The other down side was the parking ticket machine... You have to pay when you get there and then pop it in your car in clear view. There was only one machine on sight and the queue was enormous. They could've done with pay as you leave system instead. The other down side was queuing for ice cream and drinks.. We spent over 20 min waiting! Also, if you are ordering a slursh twist drink for your kids, make sure you ask for the refillable cup! They charge you the same for the normal one or the refillable one... But well worth mentioning it and being able to refill it, especially if you are staying at the premises for the day for example. And the cup is so cool you can take home as well. Toilets on sight which is great. They were fairly clean and enough space to go in with two kids (3 and 5) at a time to the cubicle. A bit tight but doable. Be ware! If you have a child with sensory challenges, such as loud noises then be prepared for the very loud hand driers! My son, with autism, has also found very annoying that one of the water taps didn't work properly and one of the soap dispensers either... Looks like they do some sort of go ape type of thing there as well, which you have to pay. Looks amazing! Worth looking into. Great Park overall, definitly going there more often! We were knackered by the...
Read moreAlways a great place for a walk with, or without, children. The wooden climbing structures (ant nest, eagle, spider web etc.) are really interesting and provide a good incentive for children to walk further than just to the main play area. Even when the weather has been wet there are still plenty of hard surface paths the don't want turn to mud. This means that pushchairs and wheelchairs can access quite a lot of the park without too much difficulty. A few areas are not completely flat and the paths have slight to moderate gradients. When the weather has been dry, the history of the park as a quarry provides a very bumpy wooded terrain that is great for children and to explore and there are felled trees to climb on. If the weather has been wet leading up to your visit and you've got kids in tow, don't put them in their Sunday best, wellingtons and a spare set of clothes for the journey home are to be recommended. The place is very popular with dogs and their owners. There's plenty of parking and even on the busiest sunny day, there are normally spaces available. You pay for parking at the machines which accept cards. The snack bar offers hot snacks, drinks (including a limited selection of alcoholic beverages) and ice creams and is not madly expensive. The toilets are now set up to manage social distancing and reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus. There is hand sanitiser available at the entrances to the main play area. I've visited this park on numerous occasions and it's always a pleasant place to be whether just walking and exploring or for a...
Read moreWe had a lovely visit here this weekend on an organised group dog walk. The place is excellent for long or short walks, loads of different routes and the main route round the outside is a decent enough path, rough in places but I was on a small mobility scooter and made it all the way round, a bit hairy in places and I wouldnt do it after a rainfall but when dry it was pretty accessible. It is very hilly though, I wouldn't recommend pushing a wheelchair round it. The park was great for kids and there were little ones throughout the walking route as well. I have docked a star mainly because the toilets were not clean and very run down plus the cafe was a bit overpriced. The one thing they need to have more of is bins, the only ones I found were all around the cafe and park, no other bins around the car parks or anywhere else round the trails that I could see. . Parking is reasonable, we paid £3.20 for 4 hours which I think is OK. My lad looked round the Narrow Guage Railway museum which I he said was excellent and really interesting, it had a good history of the site too. We will visit again but will bring bags to collect our rubbish/dog poo in as we struggled this time and had to carry it all the way...
