Outdoor Activities: The park features extensive walking and cycling trails, football pitches, and opportunities for coarse angling. It's an ideal spot for jogging, family walks, or simply enjoying the outdoors.
Watersports: Strathclyde Loch is a hub for water-based activities, including kayaking, canoeing, rowing, sailing, and windsurfing. The Watersports Centre operates daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Family Attractions: M&D’s Scotland’s Theme Park is located within the park, offering rides and entertainment for children and adults alike. Additionally, there is a children's play area and a miniature train ride that are popular among younger visitors.
Accessibility: The park is equipped with step-free paths around the loch, making it accessible for visitors with mobility challenges. Accessible toilets are available, with the Watersports Centre offering more spacious facilities.
Considerations
Public Transport: While the park has ample parking, access via public transport can be limited. Motherwell is the nearest train station, but bus services directly to the park are sparse.
Water Quality: There have been instances in the past where water-based events were canceled due to issues like blue-green algae blooms. Visitors planning to engage in water activities should check current conditions beforehand.
Camping Facilities: The on-site Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite has received mixed reviews, particularly concerning the treatment of tent campers and accessibility for disabled visitors. It's advisable to research and plan accordingly if considering an overnight stay.

Read moreNice park and we'll maintained, lovely place for family to go the park with there kids, or fit fanatics, or just people wanting to take a walk through the parks ground, lovely scenery and pleasant people and the geese are very friendly and long as you have something for them, I visited with someone with there kids, at the time it was an extremely hot day and the children's park was over crowded, even though covid was still in place, allot of Indian/Asian people about not wearing masks or there kids, the park was swamped with them. Maybe a idea for Strathclyde to make the park bigger by extending it, we went for the first time expecting a far much bigger park but it was small and compacted my local park across the road from me is bigger, so id suggest making the park bigger, appointing picnic areas, etc, there's plenty of room for improvement in that case, and maybe section sun bathing areas of, as I said it was lovely place, park needs to be bigger, and more sections for eating etc, ice cream van is very expensive to, and not good quality produce from them, for the prices I was expecting marks and Spencer Ice cream, I bought a slush, at 2,50 for a small cup, and two sips your left with plain ice, think pricing needs to be dealt with, and for a Ice cream van only had limited number of things you could have IE... Ice cream, slush, can juice, where are the Lolly's.. apart from that Strathclyde lovely, just needs improvements in areas and park made bigger instead of cramming allot of children's outdoors items in...
Read moreDepending on the timing you will find this is either a peaceful or a busy park and loch. It can be tranquil and the loch beguiling or teeming with life and the loch brimming with energy but it is forever enchanting. Many sporting and other events are held here throughout the summer. Various watersports can be found and equipment hired. The watersports centre has a cafe and a terrace view of the loch.
There are two hotels and each has a great restaurant. The theme park, M&Ds is a great place to entertain the kids, young and old. There are new rides on site every year for adult and child thrill seekers. There are fairground stalls, a large arcade, a selection of eateries including a Monterey Jack restaurant and a bar, ten pin bowling, crazy golf, kids play area and a pool hall. There is also the tropical flora and creatures of the Amazonia.
Personally I have fond memories of taking my mother there to either the theme park, the cafe in the watersports centre or especially the sandy beach where the swans, ducks and geese come right up to the car park, if they think they're going to get fed. I still go and sit in my car beguiled by the beauty, looking across the loch, playing chilled music or I wander down and sit amongst the birds.
I would say whether you're looking for adventure, relaxation or fun it's a great...
