Lots of things that are amazing about this place! A couple of (minor) points that meant 4 star rather than 5 (as we booked this for our 10 year wedding anniversary, I think the little things matter) but think we may have just been a little unlucky as other reviews don't seem to have had any problems. The couple of downsides for us were that we weren't able to use the hot tub on the Fri evening (when only there for 2 nights and no plans, this was what we intended to spend the evening doing) as we believe the wood provided was damp. We realised too late and as soon as we mentioned it, the owner was up to us within 5 mins to help sort it which was really lovely of her (and they very kindly topped up the wood the next day without charge) but it didn't take away from the fact that Friday eve had gone. Luckily, we had logs from home in the boot of the car and once we used those, it fired up perfectly and the hot tub was AMAZING. We spent ages in it on Saturday and the views whilst relaxing were just incredible. The other points were that previous occupants has left a dirty tissue under the bed which was found when I got the hair dryer out and that we ordered the breakfast box and there were 2 items missing (mushrooms and tomatoes). Having said that, there was still plenty in there and the food provided was delicious. I'm sure if I mentioned it would have been sorted for us as the owner was so responsive when I contacted them about the hot tub but I didn't realise until making breakfast so it felt pointless. I'd still recommend getting the box as it was great quality.
Good points - everything else! We didn't make use of the wild swimming and sauna as not brave enough, but still a lovely view of the area from our cabin. Cabin facilities great, comfy bed (bedside lights didn't work) and what a view to wake up to. My husband enjoyed the hammock and we loved sitting out in the morning with a cup of tea and watching the sheep in the nearby field. The guide app was very handy and we enjoyed a walk to a local pub on the Saturday with amazing food.
We would both definitely recommend for a break away from the...
Read moreWe booked The Dragons Gate for our wedding venue a little under two years ago, and had our big day this Saturday just gone. Right from the beginning both my husband and I knew this was the perfect location for us. It helped that we visited on a beautiful day and could fully appreciate the natural beauty that this place has in spades. It was utterly breathtaking!
Since booking, Cheryl has been kind, patient, and all too accommodating for us. She answered every email promptly (and at points I was sending multiple emails per week!) And she made sure we were happy with all the arrangements prior to the big day. She happily let us bring our labrador to the venue and the wedding which was so wonderful for us. The cabins were a perfect retreat after the crazy fun night we had and we really appreciated having our own space away from everyone else. Bill was also fabulous and brought us spare seats, pieces of wood, and hay bales all on short notice. You really could not ask for better people to help bring the venue to life.
Although I personally so not consider this a negative, I should point out that this might not be the venue for you if you want somebody else to do everything for you. The charm to The Dragons Gate is being able to make the venue your own, but it does mean putting in some elbow grease to get it all sorted. It took us 5 hours to set up on the Friday but I loved every second of it. And you need to pack everything down on the Sunday, but this was much quicker and easier. If you have family or friends to rope in it will be much easier for you.
We had such a blast and even though it rained on our day, I would not change a single thing about it. Thank you Cheryl and Bill, you made our day truly...
Read moreJust on our way home from a gorgeous couple of nights away in The Cat’s Back at The Dragon’s Gate, as part of our mini honeymoon. My new husband says he’s now “so relaxed you could pour him into a glass”!
So lovely to stay somewhere with such stunning views which you can see from the open air bath (plentiful, super hot water) whilst enjoying a glass of Prosecco with dinner about to be cooked on the fire pit. The wood (oak?) provided for this was perfect for the purpose, and we ordered the optional BBQ and Breakfast boxes from the local farm shop, so it was totally hassle free (and delicious) in all respects.
There was even ice in the freezer box and they left us a couple of mini packets of love hearts on the fluffy white towels left on the bed (not sure if that’s standard or a special touch as they knew we were on honeymoon).
We only stayed two days, but walked up Garway Hill one day, reaching it by foot from the path right behind the cabin.
What was also really nice wasthat the owners offered a lovely level of privacy too, with contactless check in and out, but we were given their details in case we wanted or needed anything.
We will definitely be back and recommending it to friends who want a bit of peace and quiet with truly...
