In August, we embarked on an unforgettable visit to a remarkable Scotch whiskey distillery nestled on the outskirts of the charming city of Inverness. We arrived without pre-booking our tickets, uncertain of our arrival timing after our scenic NC500 journey. To our delight, there were tickets available for the next scheduled session when we reached the distillery.

The experience was nothing short of extraordinary, appealing even to those who may not consider themselves Scotch whiskey aficionados. This distillery boasts a rich and storied history, with its roots tracing back to 1838, all of which was expertly narrated by a knowledgeable team member who guided us through the premises. The tour began with us exploring the expansive and awe-inspiring cellar, which housed an astonishing collection of oak casks, each brimming with the potential for exceptional flavors and aromas. We were also introduced to massive malting vessels, where the grains are transformed, and encountered the famed Copper Dog.

One of the captivating details we learned about was the local sourcing of the key ingredients: the pristine water and grains used in their production. The water, crystal clear and pure, flows from a nearby reservoir, marked by a towering wind turbine that stands sentinel in the distance, symbolizing the marriage of tradition and sustainable practices.

As we neared the conclusion of our tour, we were treated to a delightful whiskey tasting session that truly elevated our visit. Each sip was a celebration of craftsmanship, allowing us to savor the complex flavors and aromas that make this distillery’s offerings so exceptional. It was a fitting end to a remarkable journey into the world of...

The Singleton Distillery – A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Scotland

Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, The Singleton Distillery offers a whisky experience that is as rich in flavor as it is in heritage. Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or a curious newcomer, a visit to this distillery is nothing short of exceptional.

From the moment you step onto the distillery grounds, the charm of traditional craftsmanship is evident. The staff are not only knowledgeable but incredibly passionate about their work, offering detailed insights into the entire whisky-making process—from malting and fermentation to maturation in hand-selected oak casks.

What truly sets The Singleton apart is its signature smoothness and complexity. Their expressions, such as the Singleton of Glen Ord or the Singleton of Dufftown, showcase a delicate balance of fruitiness, sweetness, and a hint of spice—perfectly capturing the spirit of the Highlands. Each dram tells a story of time, patience, and precision.

The guided tasting sessions are a highlight, with thoughtfully curated selections that cater to all palates. The attention to detail, both in the whisky and the overall experience, reflects a brand that takes great pride in its legacy.

In short, The Singleton Distillery is a must-visit for anyone with a love for Scotch whisky. It’s not just about tasting great whisky—it’s about stepping into a world where tradition meets innovation, and every sip is a journey.

Miss.Lauren I never met a fantastic woman like you, you really did an amazing job walk through out all the distillery and explained in detailed appreciated...

We visited The Singleton Distillery on the 15th of April 2025 at 1:45 PM. The distillery itself is a very nice place to visit — the setting is lovely and we arrived full of excitement, looking forward to a great experience. Unfortunately, that excitement quickly turned into frustration.

My husband went to the bar and asked to try three carefully selected whiskies to help him choose which bottle to purchase. He was given two samples. When I joined him and we asked about the third, the bartender told us they only offer two samples per person. Fair enough — so I said I’d request the third myself, as a separate customer.

Shockingly, he refused again, this time saying they only offer one sample. When I pointed out that he had just said two, he had no explanation and simply stood there. The inconsistency and dismissive attitude were disappointing, to say the least.

The main reason to buy from the distillery — and obviously pay more for the bottle — is for the exquisite experience. But this was far from that.

On top of that, my husband was asked to pay for a taster, which seemed like an obvious upsell tactic rather than a genuine part of the experience.

Our visit started with excitement and ended in disgust. A beautiful distillery let down by confusing policies and poor...

We had a very good time, with guide Lauren leading us through the distillery. She is a very calm and competent guide, who talks very clearly and has great expressions to support her story. The features to see the different components per stage of the process was really great as well. We took our time and learned a lot. The distillery (and the bar+toilets) were very neat, cosy and clean. With a great atmosphere and friendly staff. The selection of three tastes and the explanation of how to drink whisky was really great too. With a sweet thoughtful add-on. Unfortunately, with the tour of 15.30h we did not have the longest amount of time to enjoy our whisky tasting. So, in the last ten/fifteen minutes we suddenly had to rush. That was a bit of a shame. We couldn't really enjoy + get anything else we would like to buy or eat. But, that's just a detail of the further marvelous tour. We liked this distillery better than the Ben Nevis! They didn't have any advice in the tasting, it was more of a bar. This one is more modern. We also went to the Talisker one (didn't do a tour), which was similarly clean and neat. So definitely can recommend that one too, if you like peaty
