I used to walk the dog here 3-4 times a week, but this was the first time since the heavy logging in 2019. Even though I understand the need for it, I have to say I was saddened at the change. Apart from feeling thin (which you’d expect), there is quite a lot of collateral damage from machines, and many of my favourite more hidden paths and areas are blocked by unused felled trees or have simply been destroyed altogether, particularly a previously beautiful spot at the north edge with a badger set. In years, there may well be another change for the better, particularly in areas where sunlight can now reach the ground. Right now though, it just makes me feel a bit sad.

Cyclists and horse riders are asked to stick to the main paths. Walkers and their dogs are welcome to the off the beaten track paths.

There's a car park, a bin and that's it so bring your own water and poo bags. There is a gritty forestry commision path through the centre so you can push pushchairs and wheelchairs through the main section if you don't mind the mud.
