A natural shinhle bar reputedly blocking the way into Helston's harbour (disputed as Bede wrote about the bar in the 8C) a loveley walk available both sides of the lake the Westerly route has the 'Stables' tea room half way down. Free parking at Helston and pubs in Porthleven. Apparently Cornwall's only source of native flint washed up from the river that ran thru what is now the English Channel at the end of the Ice Age. The walk is not at all difficult and is easily walked, cycled or horsed. The path on the West walk has been consolidated and/or concreted along its length. The beach is a lovely day out for the family and at its Eastern side has the Anson Memorial. Beware DO NOY swim at the bar beach at any time of tide, it is a stteply shelving beachvwith a nasty under tow and has claimed a few victims...
