Ladybower Reservoir is a beautiful and peaceful destination in the heart of the Peak District, ideal for anyone looking to connect with nature. The reservoir is surrounded by picturesque landscapes, with rolling hills and dense woodlands, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing day out. We enjoyed walking along the well-maintained paths that loop around the reservoir. The trails are suitable for all levels of fitness, and even though we didn’t venture up to Bamford Edge, the views across the water were still absolutely stunning. The tranquillity of the area made it easy to forget the hustle and bustle of daily life.
One of the highlights of our visit was discovering the history of the reservoir. The iconic Ladybower viaduct is a sight to behold, and learning about the Dambusters' connection to the area added an interesting historical dimension to our walk. There are informative signs along the paths that provide great insights into the reservoir's construction and significance.
The reservoir is spacious enough that even on a busy day, it never felt crowded. We found some lovely picnic spots where we could sit back, relax, and enjoy the serene surroundings. The local wildlife was an added bonus, with plenty of birds and other creatures to spot along the way.The nearby visitor centre was a great stop, offering refreshments and clean facilities, which made our visit even more enjoyable. All in all, Ladybower Reservoir is a fantastic destination for anyone visiting the Peak District, offering natural beauty, rich history, and a peaceful atmosphere.
I highly recommend it and look forward to returning for more exploration...

Walking towards the end of the bridge at ladybower you can turn left down the hill which leads you down the forest and back onto the main road or left. On the left there was small water streams on route, which had flowing water. Lovely to see and very calming. We didn't make it to the end of the reservoir as was advised that you can't circle around and would need to come back on yourself.
If you park towards the top side of the ladybower reservoir as you drive towards fairholmes visitor centre and walk across the busy (this can be loud as its a 50mph road) there is a lovely place to see all the geese and their babies.
