Union Bridge — Attraction in Horncliffe

The Union Bridge offers a unique experience to walk across a bridge from England and arrive in Scotland on the other side. The bridge is a remarkable piece of engineering and back in 1820 it was the longest wrought iron suspension bridge in the world. More recently it has undergone a £10 million+ restoration and is quite a sight to see. Well worth seeking out if you're passing this area. This historic bridge is a great photo opportunity, and well worth the short detour from the A1 or when visiting Paxton house nearby. It's little changed since its construction in 1820. Cars can drive over - only one is allowed at a time, and there are width restricting bollards at each end.
