Hamerton Zoo… Announcing on facebook that you need a new disability pass just days before the change, and not even bothering informing customers who have bought year long passes directly is useless!!! Like disabled people are going to be online or on Facebook every day to check!! Me and my disabled aunt came here last month and were told to bring in a DLA letter alongside a paid for at the time full year pass. We got here today and we were refused access because we don’t have a pass for the pass. The pass is £15 from a third party website and the card takes a week to arrive! Nobody emailed or called or sent a letter to let people know. Posting it on your website a few days before the change and expecting people to have read it isn’t enough!!! We were refused access and told we had to pay full price despite having a years pass paid for last month! They wouldn’t make an exception given the fact that we weren’t notified. My aunt doesn’t even use Facebook, she wasn’t informed, how the hell is she meant to know you changed things unless she’s informed in advance! To allow us to turn up and refuse entry is shockingly poor service!! My daughter is so upset that we have been stuck in the car park for three quarters of an hour because we can’t physically get her strapped into her car seat, she’s so upset that we didn’t go in and she’s too young to understand. I asked for help and they sent out a nice young man who tried to help me to get my daughter into her seat by keeping her legs down while I tried to get her arms into the straps, but even with two of us we couldn’t get her strapped in! We have been waiting half an hour for the manager to come out and speak about this and nobody has come back out to see us. We are still stuck in the car park and we still can’t get my daughter into the seat to leave, so we have been stuck here three quarters of an hour and they simply don’t care at all! Shocking customer services!! The change came into place three days ago and we have a years pass, common decency would say we should have been allowed access on this occasion given that they didn’t tell us about this change.
We were there at just gone two. It was about half two when the first man came out to help me get Liv in the car after they wouldn’t let us in, but even with two of us we couldn’t get her in. I hope she’s not covered in bruises from this, because she really threw herself about in the car! There was no manager available on a bank holiday weekend and nobody knew what to do. The staff hadn’t been briefed on how to deal with this situation, and they said they’d had problems since the 1st May when the new system was put into place, (where they’ve had to turn people away and customers have been angry). Surely common sense (and common decency) would dictate that if someone has paid to go in for a year, they should still be able to go in if they’re not been told that they need to get a pass for a pass! It wasn’t our fault because they didn’t tell us! They just expect people to read their social media posts or be mind readers, so no wonder they’re having problems! We wasted the whole afternoon, plus two hours driving time, a lot of upset, and travelling costs, when it would have cost them absolutely nothing at all to allow us to go in on this one occasion. I say allowing us in, we paid for a year last month so we should have been allowed in anyway! It’s awful! My daughter cried for over three hours and my aunt was very upset too, and when we asked for a refund for the year ticket they...
Read moreWe had a fantastic day out at Hamerton Zoo and Park! The zoo itself is beautifully kept. It had spotless pathways, clean enclosures, and a real sense that the animals are well cared for. It’s a lovely place to explore and perfect for families looking for a relaxed, nature filled outing.
One of the absolute highlights for us was the Dinosaur Express Train Ride, it was such a fun and unique experience! The train takes you on a gentle ride past life-sized dinosaur models, which were a huge hit with the kids and surprisingly impressive for the adults too. A definite must do if you’re visiting!
All of the staff we encountered throughout the park were polite and welcoming, and the whole place had a calm, friendly atmosphere.
On a less positive note, I purchased a souvenir mug for my husband at the end of the visit. Unfortunately, there were no boxes available, so I asked for it to be wrapped to prevent any damage on our way home. The gentleman who served us was very helpful and more than happy to assist. However, the female staff member who was also present was quite unpleasant. She rolled her eyes, sighed loudly, and returned with the mug wrapped in a single sheet of kitchen towel, which felt a bit dismissive and unprofessional, especially considering it was a fragile item.
Despite that small disappointment, our overall experience at Hamerton Zoo and Park was really enjoyable, and I’d still highly recommend a visit. It’s a wonderful day out for all ages, with great attractions, lovely animals, and mostly...

When I went we had a discount leaflet of 10%, which took the price down. There is a train ride (a motorised tractor unit that pulls the train around a path not wheel chair accessible) this cost extra money otherwise all other attractions were included within the entrance price.
There are large picnic areas some are under cover and some are open air. You can come and go from the carpark with your entrance receipt so you can leave picnics in the car. There is a cafe and ice cream booths none of which I used but looked clean and of good quality.
There are toilets and seating areas throughout.
The children's play area is very big and fun but once again not wheelchair accessible, there is also a younger children's (5 and below is my guess) area.
I recomend buying a guide book and making a note of the keeper talk times next to locations on the map inside. (The talk times are listed at the front entrance after the till point).
The staff are all friendly polite and nothing is too much trouble.
The animals are all healthy and well looked after. They are part of a conservation program. The animals were out all apart from the bears as it had been raining and they decided not to leave thier bed...
I would go again. A season ticket might be something...
