It's a coastal path in the Isle of Grain. There's a small car park next to a section of grassland right next to the mud flats or the shingle beach.
If you need any last minute drinks or food then there is a Co-op and a newsagent on the road as you come towards the car park.
The path sees a lot of walkers and day trippers wanting some fresh air. The sea wall reaches round the head land quite a way (didn't measure it) - took me 10 min steady cycling (slow speed to be safe). There are grassy public footpaths after the viable sea wall ends which leads to a dead end but they are a nice route on a sunny day.
On a good day you have a great view of the boats coming in and out of the local water ways.
When the tide is in and the sun is out you get a few paddle boarders and the like.
On the way in by car you pass the well known fuel storage and power station, pass a lot of farmland and through a lot of reedy marshland studded with patches of open water. The industrial aspect aside, it's great for bird spotting and insect hunting. So I'm told.
I really only come here by bicycle. It's a great trip to stretch the legs and get some wind through your hair. The roads can be busy but not dangerously so and it has an average speed control of 40 mph; pick your time and there are very...
Read moreIt's a relatively quiet coastal walk alongside the Thames estuary and in this particular area of the estuary, the semi-industrial landscape. The massive Grain LNG terminal is the backdrop to the park to the south and Sheerness port to the east. The car park is ample for the number of visitors at this time of year and it's free. The car park is unpaved, very uneven and isn't disable or buggy-friendly. The car park has height restriction barriers in place (1.9m) and is unsuitable for roof-mounted cycles. The path right next to the sea is concrete and suitable for cycles (you'll just need to manoeuvre around the fishermen). Off the concrete path cycling is possible with the right bike. Take your binoculars with you. We saw a few different bird species other than the usual ones. Flora wasn't particularly inspiring one day before meteorological spring starts. Give it 10 days to a fortnight for a bit more to spring into life. There are several picnic tables dotted about if you want to take a picnic. Just bear in mind that there are ZERO facilities on site. No coffee/tea/food. No toilets. You'll have to follow the example of the local fishermen and dive into the bushes...
Read moreFantastic sea front. It's very out the way, and what a weird but quirky and almost science fictional experience, driving into the Isle of grain itself. The seafront is quiet, and you're able to watch the boats coming in and out from Tilbury docks further up the Thames.
The parking is directly next to the sea front. But it is height restricted, so taller vehicles like vans or campervans can't enter the car park, which doesn’t leave many other options to choose from. That's my only downside. As the Isle of grain itself is ideal for campervans, it limits the use of the carpark to certain people.
Other than that, it's a large sea front, and the views are fabulous, enabling you to see parts of the Isle of Sheppey, South end other coastlines. It's very well kept, which makes the experience even better.
Overall, it isn't 5 stars due to the parking. But if you're in a car, you'll have no issues. Everything...
