An excellent place for families, and maybe even better for the adults, especially as there are quite a few free and interesting play areas for the kids to burn off their energy whilst we get to sit and rest. The range of animals is really good, as are the conservation efforts being made on site. , our group visited all the animals, both zoo and farm first, including a tractor trip on the land train around the rare breeds paddocks. This was a free ride. Our tractor mad boys were thrilled to bits with this as well as the pedal tractors and tractor and digger rides - more about the rides in a mo... There's loads of things to do - including indoors, which is fab on rainy days. Indoor farm, old fashioned fun fair, indoor play area, restaurants, etc Loads to do outside with outdoor play areas, including a castle, pirate ship and a sandy digger area, pedal tractor area. The rides: Go karts at 4 tokens per car, each car to sit an adult and child if the child is under a certain height. Tractor ride that goes around on a loop so the kids think they are driving - 1 token per person. Life-size diggers at 3 tokens each. Only 2 minutes, which made it an expensive ride. Boys loved it, though, cos they are, of course, real diggers! There was a feris wheel and another typical fair ride I can't remember the name of. Each token = £1 The rides are all extras to the entrance fee. BE AWARE - The wrist bands they offer you, DO NOT include the go karts or the diggers. You will still have to get extra tokens for them.
Cool zoo area, the penguins and giraffes were the boys favourites. All the animals looked well cared for and had plenty of space in their habitats. The farm yard was informative, plenty of animals, but the boys were a little disappointed that the cows that were there to show the kids how to milk a cow were empty and couldn't find anyone to ask about refilling for the boys to try. Um, these were obviously model cows not real ones, yes, I was asked!
The whole site was clean, and there were plenty of bins provided. Lots of places to picnic.
The out door play areas were great for getting the children to burn off the excess energy during the day and prior to leaving (we returned for an hour before leaving for this purpose and it made the journey home much less stressful, kids were too worn out to argue :0))
We went on a Saturday, we expected it to be busy but it wasn't that bad. We didn't have to queue for rides or wait to see the animals. We brought a packed lunch with us as we had been warned the food prices in the park were expensive- they were on a par with local fast food places! Lots of places to picnic - The worst place for a picnic is by the kiddies play area. The best place is definitely by the giraffes! Seagulls are brazen and will just swoop and take food. It doesn't help that in spite of signs saying do not feed them, there is always one group that does! Prices to get in - We had 3 children and 4 adults in our group, 2 disabled. It cost us £88 for 1 adult and 3 children (family ticket) + 1 adult £23.95 . There are no concessions for disabled, but carers go in free. Our charge for the day was £111.95 + £40 in tokens as the wrist bands on sale at £12.95 did not cover the rides our boys wanted to go on. Not a cheap day out, but not that expensive when you remember they have animals to feed and care for, staff wages , but I would say the entrance fee is worth the day out. You can enjoy the farm without the token rides, which is what we will be doing, so yes, we will definitely be...
Read moreLovely day out but BEWARE.
Facilities: Excellent. Content: Excellent. Staff: Excellent. Value for Money: Poor.
This fantastic attraction was superb for the kids with lots to see and do (kids were 4yo and 2yo and both were well occupied).
So many rides and play areas both inside and out, you can easily fill a day and the kids enjoyed it very much.
The Zoo + Barn + Attractions + Rides were all in different "zones" so it was easy to pick what you wanted to do.
What we saw: Large well equipped (and fun) play parks for the kids (several, each with different themes) Could easily spend a few hours in these. Indoor amusements (arcade type machines) [cash] Indoor rides [tokens or arm band] Outdoor rides [tokens or arm band] Barn (included) very good. Zoo (included)
Ticket entry includes one return visit within seven days, which I'd recommend taking advantage of mainly as you've paid so much to get in, but this did enable us to focus on attractions/rides on day 1 and then use the revisit two days later to visit the barn and zoo. I would recommend the barn for sure, very up close to the animals and the welfare looked spot on.
Brings me to my BEWARE:
This place is setup exceedingly well to take your money, they've had 30+ years of experience getting it right and they are experts. I've not paid so much for a day (or two) out in forever. Yes it was very good, BUT factoring in all the costs I would still say it represents poor value for money overall.
The ticket prices to get in are incredibly high to begin with - but the entry tickets are only the first hurdle and you're not done paying yet...
Once you're in, 50% of the main event is in the attractions, all of which you need to buy tokens for (pay as you go) or pay up front for "unlimited" arm bands. But then, the unlimited arm bands still only get you into 80% of the attractions/rides and neither your armbands or your entry tickets allow you use of any of the indoor amusements without further expenditure.
For two parents and two adults we paid £120 for entry and unlimited passes, approx another £40 for other amusements etc. We took food so what we paid does not include any refreshments.
Yes I would say it is worth a visit, if only once, but attend knowing that it will be an expensive day out. The kids loved it and so did we, but after our "two" days there and everything we did, I don't feel like we got enough/did enough to feel like it was value for money. Your mileage may vary,...
Read moreI went here for my 27th Birthday - yes 27! Big kid at heart and had the best trip out to Folly Farm. As soon as I entered and saw the gift shop I knew my day was going to be good.
We started off in the barn area giving fuss and strokes to the lambs, donkeys and horses. This open barn area is spacious, clean, and good environment for the animals with fresh hay, water and heat lamps for the younger animals. It was lovely getting up close to the animals. And also good that you could wash your hands and sanitise after being close to the animals as there are soaps and sinks provided within the barn and also around the farm / zoo to make sure hands are clean. We then explored the farm animals on the other side - you can walk under the road through a tunnel to see the animals. A land train is available (between 11&3) to take you around the farm. Again was good to see the animals free and happy in their environment outside.
After a picnic in one of the many picnic areas we ventured onto the different country themed sections for the animals and saw the red panda, rhino, tapir, turtles, lions and giraffe and many more amazing animals! The environment in which the animals were in were clean, fully stocked up with water, food and hay what they needed and they seemed relaxed and settled where they were which adds to your experience knowing the animals have what they need!!!
Also a vintage fairground which is extra to pay: to get tokens to get on the rides etc , you can get a wristband to go on and off the rides over the day. You can keep your receipt and also get a stamp on your had to come in and out of folly farm if needed to go to your car.
I would say Folly Farm / zoo is suitable for all. It is wheelchair and pushchair accessible.
Cafes, restaurants, toilets, hand washing facilities, smoking areas, picnic sites, gift shop and a big car park.
Staff seem friendly and plenty of them.
They've also developed into Hoseasons for their holiday park with lodges and...
