A great beach, it felt like we were abroad! Here's some tips if you plan on going.
Park at the old Clifftop CarPark - search this as you're approaching, its right on the beach and past the old whitehouse. It costs about £7.00 in coins for the whole day or you have to use your phone and download the application ParkingOps and use that - this costs £7.20 for the whole day. Some people struggled to get a connection so I'd advise taking coins as a backup as theres no where to get cashback or change. Be warned as lots of people were getting frustrated with this.
The tide will have gone out in the morning so the ocean will be quite far from the mainland beach area where you can sit - however by around 2pm the tide would have come in and you won't be too far from it.
Take water with you, lots of it if its hot.
Lots of wet wipes too if you have kids. We had only a few but went through them superquick. Should have taken more as sand will be everywhere.
There's a cafe not too far off, I think its called the Old Town Beach Cafe, you can find it by following the beach along your right from the clifftop carpark. You can get a meal there, it cost about £30 for x2 adults x2 kids...
Been going here since I was a boy, now I'm taking my own kids here! Whilst we usually opt for Brancaster, a few miles further down the coast, we decided to visit Hunstanton this time and were glad we did so. With its distinctive red & white cliffs, wide expanse of flat sands, rock pools, dunes and even the old wreck it had enough to keep us all happy. Things to watch out for; car park surface is very rough, take it slowly! Parking charge is slightly higher than I'd like, especially considering the state of the car park and the single, very basic toilet block at the very far end, right near to the entrance (a heck of a trip if you have to come all the way from the beach). There is a cafe and gift shop also at the entrance to the car park. Overall, a pleasant place, not spoiled by the amusement arcades like the newer part further into town (unless you like that...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVisited on a warm sunny day during school half term. It was busy but although we arrived just before lunch there was plenty of space to park. The beach is huge so despite large numbers of people there is space for everyone - especially when the tide goes out, and if you walk further along away from the car park (to the right as you enter the beach) it gets less busy. Adequate facilities including toilets, beach shop and cafe at the entrance to the car park, and another cafe with outdoor seating a little further along on the road into Old Hunstanton itself. The beach is dog-friendly and there were a lot of dogs in evidence when we were there but all well under control and most on leads. The beach seems very clean (apart from the usual detritus washed up by the sea itself) with no sign of litter despite the large...
