Shhh don't tell anyone about this magical place. We stopped off here for a brake after travelling back from Knockan and getting stuck in a traffic jam for an hour. Yes, you potential NC500ers' the highlands are not a wilderness and traffic jams happen just like anywhere else! Anyway, although we have stayed in this general area for many a year in our younger days, we had never visited this glen. I remember seeing it on a number of tourist signs, but it was never described or promoted in any tourist related informational brochures. Hence, this was our first visit and we had the Glen to ourselves, I can't begin to describe to you how amazing this place looks. When walking around you are struck that no matter which direction you look, it appears as if someone has created a picture perfect postcard of a magical woodland. Whoever manages this glen, my hat's off to you, this place has definitely entered our top ten spots for a short walk in...

If you don't have your own transport (backpacker like me) but want to get there than:

  1. take a bus No 28 from Inverness Bus Station to Drumchardine (stop: Hotel). If you not sure ask a driver.
  2. walk around 1,7 miles path next to road, just read signs. It's difficult to lost there, everything is marked. Cross small bridge and after turn to left. There is no side path, just road - go all time straight. In short time you will see car parking. There is start of your forest trip!

Important! Always check bus for way back. They are not so regular , especially on weekends. And don't forget that you need back again same way to bus stop in Drumchardine.

  • for "Outlander's" lover - you can visit Wardlaw Mausoleum, also by walk - if you feel enough strength (2.5 miles). And also...

My wife and I traveled to Scotland from the states last year for our honeymoon. I had been to Scotland when I was a wee lad and remembered that there were these hidden little rain forest gems tucked away here and there. I simply typed in "rain forest" into maps and this one popped up. We were staying in Dornoch so it wasn't terribly far (just beware of rush hour in Inverness which can be very slow).

The main hike is very easy. However, there are other trails that are more of a challenge. Make sure to bring a lot of water as the glen can get quite humid in the summer.

I'm not sure I want to describe the place much more. I uploaded some photos here. It's a very special place and I highly encourage anyone, living local or traveling, to experience it for yourself. You...

Reelig Glen: A Majestic Woodland Retreat Reelig Glen is a hidden gem just outside of Inverness, offering a serene escape into nature. The towering trees, lush greenery, and tranquil river create a truly magical atmosphere. The well-maintained trails are perfect for a leisurely stroll or a more vigorous hike. The towering redwoods are particularly impressive, offering a glimpse into a different world. The gentle murmur of the river provides a soothing soundtrack to your walk, and the fresh, clean air invigorates the senses. Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat or a family-friendly outing, Reelig Glen is a must-visit destination. It's a place where you can reconnect with nature and appreciate the beauty of the Scottish Highlands.
