Fascinating insight into the Frasers and their history as well as the current work undergoing to verify some historical information. (DNA testing of the remains of what is thought to be Simon ‘Fox’ Fraser will be released January 2018).

The neighbors of the cemetery are the ones who facilitate this experience for free. They have done their own research to identify the history around some of those buried in the mausoleum. Although the experience is free, please donate some money to the ongoing restoration efforts.

You can contact them via Facebook, Instagram or their website to...

We were at Kirkhill Cemetery to lay tributes to my Family on the low/new ground. We walked round the old high ground graveyard viewing one Commonwealth grave, reading others around in this beautiful place. We only saw the outside of this mausoleum, as we had not contacted custodian, due to short notice. We still gained from the site, regardless of not going inside.....this time. I have been fortunate as a youngster to have been in the crypt, it was a humbling, fascinating and never...

just been as part of our NC500 trip. Eric who lives next door gave us access into the cemetery along with access into the mausoleum. Eric was very kind and knew everything about the history of the place. Do not ask if Jamie or Claire Fraser are buried there (he doesnt like that, and apparently they arent real. who knew?!) Eric did however go into full detail about the history of the family and the building. It was very interesting! We also got to ring the bell! Go if you like...

The visit to this little mausoleum and graveyard was a highlight of our visit to Scotland. It was a real treat to have a personal tour with someone as passionate and knowledgeable as Erik. I’m an Outlander fan but also just love history and hearing the history of the Fraser family and the mausoleum brought to life by Erik, who is himself involved in the restoration of the building, was wonderful. Thank you again Erik for your work and for our tour yesterday.

This historic Mausoleum is signposted and is well worth a visit. This is burial place for the Frasers of Lovat. The cemetery itself is well cared for and attended too, some of the stones are very old. The day I visited it was wet and the ground was slippy, so mind how you go. It is also possible to see the interior you can get the key and a wee history lesson from the custodian who lives nearby.
