A Wonderful Family Day Out at Acorn Farm ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
I recently visited Acorn Farm in Kirkby, and it was an absolutely delightful experience! This place offers the perfect combination of fun, education, and relaxation, making it a great destination for families, couples, and anyone looking for a peaceful escape from the city.
Animals and Activities: The variety of animals is fantastic! We loved interacting with friendly goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, and alpacas. The farm also offers feeding opportunities, which added a lot to the experience, especially for the kids. You can buy animal feed at the entrance, and it’s such a joy to see the animals up close.
Play Areas and Family-Friendly Fun: There are two well-maintained playgrounds – one for younger children and another with more challenging equipment, which kept my kids entertained for hours. The tractor rides were a highlight for us, and they also offer a petting area where children can handle smaller animals like rabbits and guinea pigs.
Accessibility and Staff: The farm is well laid out, and we found it very accessible for prams and wheelchairs. The staff were incredibly friendly and patient, always happy to answer questions and help the kids engage with the animals.
Value for Money: Admission prices are very reasonable, and considering all the activities available, it offers excellent value. We spent almost the whole day there without getting bored, and the children were already asking when we could come back!
Overall, Acorn Farm is a hidden gem in Kirkby. Whether you’re an animal lover or just looking for a fun day out, this place is well worth a visit. We’ll definitely be...
Read moreWorst place I've had the misfortune of visiting! My meal had a long black hair in it when served (I'm blond), my hot chocolate had no taste and was like dirty dish water! The small dining hall was swarming with wasps, we were constantly attacked by 6 flying around and had to leave our food in the end as I'm allergic to them yet doors and windows were open with clearly a wasps nest and no help from staff just attitude when I sent my food then drink back! There's barely nothing there to see and staff were so rude and complained they were busy when I complained to them yet no hair nets worn in the kitchen! This was the worst day of my life and we were with a disabled young person ... no consideration was given to her either and the wasps kept flying around her and wouldn't leave us alone. Parking was awful and you got smacked with the toilet door when someone opened it or when you washed your hands it was that tiny and over crowded in there ...no social distancing at all anywhere in there. I would highly recommend this place be avoided at all costs and would of gave 0 stars if that were an option! Absolutely 💯...
Read moreDefinitely more of a petting zoo than a farm. Staff were all friendly, the girls in the small animals section were very nice. I wouldn’t say the welfare for the animals was brilliant though. Rabbits being fed iceberg lettuce, which is generally advised against by vets as it can cause diarrhea. Small enclosures for the chickens for the number of them that were in the pens. What seemed to be a lone meerkat (from what I could see) in an enclosure. And need to be careful with the animal feed guests can give, particularly in ruminants. It’s an okay petting zoo if you live local but I wouldn’t advise going out of your way to get there.
Edit response:
The rabbits were being fed huge chunks of iceberg lettuce, not just a small amount. It seems from previous reviews your meerkat has been alone for years. Perhaps efforts should be made to rehome him. There is an excellent safari park close by. It also seems your chickens have been in these pens for about 8 years now, judging by another previous review. My final point; the horse I saw being ridden should have been retired about...
