Hidden gem - challenging but fun hike up the steep and difficult path from the road on the westerly access. Long ascent up, over a narrow path that gives a view to Grasmere below you and the foxglove littered hillside across from you. Final leg is an open grassy climb up to the tarn. At night (I camped one night here), the lights from Windermere and surrounding villages were shimmeringly visible. Note: the hill was very ideal for scoping oncoming clouds to make our own weather forecasts. The rockiness provided a good shelter...

The path is good with engineered steps in places and starts just behind the Swan Inn on...

Medium hike with some steep parts. Small rocky path. Good views from the top over Grasmere area. Good walking boots essential. Remote hike of 2 to 3 hours up to an elevation of 1,115 feet and a round trip of 3.5 miles. Small waterfall about two thirds the way up. There is good mobile phone coverage up and down the tarn so a GPS device is not essential. Also this route is very...
