Hidden gem - challenging but fun hike up the steep and difficult path from the road on the westerly access. Long ascent up, over a narrow path that gives a view to Grasmere below you and the foxglove littered hillside across from you. Final leg is an open grassy climb up to the tarn. At the tarn, there is a small hill on the west bank, from which there are just phenomenal panoramic views of Grasmere, Ambleside and even as far as Windermere. At night (I camped one night here), the lights from Windermere and surrounding villages were shimmeringly visible.
