This folly on top of the hill has one of the best views of the Towy Valley. The building itself is interesting, fully accessible and free to visit. Though at the moment of writing, the public are not permitted to climb the spiral staircase (renovation work going on). They have recently removed the wooden fence that immediately surrounded the tower, which makes the tower more aesthetically pleasing. However, this has meant that the local sheep have full access too - may need to check your boots before getting back in the car!! Well worth a visit - especially on a cold winter morning when the mist follows the river - spectacular!!

Well worth a detour. Was this tower a snub to the local people who failed to elect Paxton as an MP or more conventionally a tribute to Nelson? Whatever, it has great views out over the Tywi valley and is a quick visit when visiting other local highlights. Sadly you can’t get to the top of the tower but can access the old dining chamber. Park in the small carpark and walk to the tower. Combine with lunch or deli shopping at Wrights or a meal at Y Polyn, plus a trip up nearby Dryslwyn Castle Hill. Also nearby the National Botanic Garden of Wales, Dynefwr and Aberglasney.

Great little building in a great location. Free to visit and enter, great view of the valley from upstairs. Decent size free carpark adjacent, very short walk to tower. If you are in the neighbourhood and have a spare half an hour it is well worth a visit. You can see neighbouring Dryslwyn castle from the tower - it's also free to visit with free parking, so if you have another 30 mins spare and are interested in castle ruins, it's only a 5 minute drive away so you might as well take a look.

Lovely structure all of it is standing. You can walk up to the first floor inside the building. The views up there are amazing. You should be able to spot 2 castles, botanical gardens are less than 2 miles away. You can see the top of the mountain were the lady of the lake is also known as llyn y fan fach,or the carmarthenshire fangs. And that is as far up as Usk the lake. Not far from trecastle.

As towers go, it’s in pretty good shape and worth a visit. We included Paxton’s tower as part of a 6 mile circular hike, but we could see it being a great spot for picnic’s. It was a windy cold day with reduced visibility on our visit, but there are fabulous views to be enjoyed, obviously considerably better on nice day! Car park could fit a good 8 cars, though the lane to it is tight.

Fab place to visit, small free car park before the entrance gate. We visited on a wet and blustery day so walking boots were definitely needed. No solid path just grass which was very flooded, so one to bear in mind if visiting after wet weather. Stunning views from around the tower, will definitely return on a warmer/ clearer day for a picnic and to watch the sunset!!
