We visited the National White Water Centre one sunny Sunday afternoon in July, and we couldn’t wait to cool down in the waters of the River Tryweryn. The site itself is lovely, with a picturesque walk up and around the river, where you can witness the action of the rafting. There was also a Cafe which is very reasonably priced, as well as ample seating outdoors. There was also an outdoor pizza and ice cream hut, which looked great too. The experience lasted around 2 and a half hours for the full rafting experience. It’s not a cheap afternoon out, but it is worth every penny! We checked in and met our instructor called George. George was a fantastic mix of fun and professional, and made you feel at ease and excited for the experience. After donning wetsuits, helmets and boots, we went through the safety briefing, going through the commands on what to do (and what not to do) in the raft. George made it as quick and as painless as possible, as he was keen to get us on the river and enjoying the experience. After a quick minibus ride up the hill, we got our boat on to the river and started the fun. After a gentle beginning, it soon turned into a thrilling ride. To say it was fun was an understatement, as you spend the next 90 minutes racing down rapids, paddling like mad, and just having an amazing time. On the full rafting experience, we went up 4 times, and each time was a different experience. George did a great job of keeping each experience different, doing fun little games. On a hot 29 degrees Welsh summer’s day, cooling down and getting soaked was very welcome! The whole experience was fantastic from start to finish, and well worth the price. Make sure you look at the professional photos too, as a photographer takes 50+ photos of your experience, and it’s only £25 for all the photos, which are well worth it! A big thanks to George again for making the experience amazing!

Last week I went white water rafting. It was a gift from when I left work. I LOVE white water rafting, it's my favourite extreme sport. Other extreme sports last a minute or two, maybe 5, but white water rafting is one rush after another, sometimes for a few hours. So what a perfect gift????? The only problem is I HATE cold water. I even found the great barrier reef too cold!! When I've done rafting before it's been in Africa with 30+ degrees and I can just about manage to get in the water. So there was no chance I ever wanted to do it in Wales on an overcast rainy day! I had mixed feelings about doing it, on one hand I know I love it but I also hate cold water. We had three trips down the same bit of river so I thought I'd just do it once and let everyone else carry on enjoying their day while i went and got dry with a warm cup of tea!. But what fun it was. I managed to do all three trips and with a lot of peer pressure I even sat in the front of the boat the final trip and got soaked!!!! I would highly recommend the National White Water Centre.

Came here with kids aged 2 and 5 looking for a walk by the river and had an amazing time! The staff is kind and friendly and had lots of information for us, the café was wonderful with views over the river. Toilets are clean and well maintained. The lady at the info desk offered us some free activity kits for the kids (to be returned at the end), which contain a backpack, binoculars, magnifying glass, tape measure, crayons and a clipboard with activity sheets. Our oldest had a fantastic time searching for wildlife and plants, observing the world around him on the hour long walk up the river and back - we were even offered carabiners and rope to tether the kids to ourselves as the walk is quite close to the rapids; didn't need them in the end but a lovely thought. We'll definitely be back for a walk next time we're around, and for some rafting when the kids are old enough!

I am in two minds whether to post the review, simply because we love to hear positive things, we love to hear it was the best experience ever! Unfortunately this wasn't. This was our third time of visiting the centre to enjoy the white water rafting experience and this was the only time it has been a disappointing experience and not because we had done it before.

Unusual personality of our experience deliverer, just don't think it worked. I know it needs to be a balance of being serious enough to get the safety issues across and being enthusiastic to build the experience but felt a bit like an army exercise.

Secondly I really felt I was treated in an ageist way, yes I was the oldest person on the raft but I was the only person on the raft who was asked several times if I did not want to sit at the front of the boat, none of the other five people were asked that and I was asked twice, actually maybe three times. Additionally, towards the end of the final trip, we were sitting in the front and we were told, not asked, it wasn't an option, we were told to change places with the two people in the centre of the boat, so they could sit at the front, discrimination again. There is a way to say things and engage with your customers, this wasn't it. I would be interested to know if the second raft that went down at the same time, if the person who was in that raft, who was of similar age was asked the same thing? I paid to be insulted.

In getting the whole visit in perspective, the person I spoke to on the phone the day prior to our visit and the member of staff on reception when we arrived were so in the right job, upbeat, enthusiastic, positive and that needs to...

Centre is really easy to find, well maintained and runs like clockwork due to all the helpful staff. The centre has a lovely cafe that serves a whole range of food and drinks from tea/coffee and cake to stone baked pizzas, burgers and chips. The outside of the cafe and centre is situated so spectators have a great vantage point of the river. Really nice plan to go even if it's just for the cafe

The centre has all of the equipment you'll need to hire, provided you've booked it in advance and provide changing facilities with showers and lockers to keep valuables safe.

Instructors are knowledge able and approvable and genuinely seem to want to be there. Our instructors Nathan and Samuel hit the perfect balance beyween entertaining and saftey conscious allowing us to have a great time and feel safe while doing it. It's a very technical Class 3 river, allowing advanced rafters to get a technical session and beginners to give everything a go. Nathan and Samuel managed the skill gap really well, everyone left the session happy

Is is an expensive activity but with this place you do get what you pay for, every penny was worth it

Oh and if you're doing it without spectators there's an option to buy photos taken of the group for £25, you get...
