Visited today & able to bring our dog in too. Took about an hour to walk around, very interesting to learn the history. Given an audio guide which was very good. Were also give a small piece of slate to engrave with a chisel yourself. There are piles upon piles of pieces of slate everywhere, I guess waiting to be used. There were a couple of tradesmen working but they didnt interact. Shop is very good with some beautiful pieces. Cafè on site with indoor & outside seating & a butchers. Needs a bit of a tidy up tbh but interesting to visit. Cost £7 each for concessions.

My wife and I visited last week and went on the tour. It was really interesting and lasted about an hour with a great audio guide along with practical things to do. I highly recommend visiting and at the end looking around the shop. We will certainly visit again if in the area.

What a gem of a place. Fascinating work environment with a tour so you can see things going on. Also really good at awnsering questions on the process they use. Lovely commentary and visuals.

We were advised to go here at a local hotel. So off we went. Great tour around the works with some really interactive bits and bobs to do. The cafe staff were absolutely fantastic as our car battery died and they went out of their way to get us going again. Wonderfully helpful with a free tea thrown in for good measure. The food here was also wonderful and cooked to order. The chicken looked fab and the cakes were to die for. Overall a real Jewell in the crown for Wales. If you are in this area pass and this by you will really miss out on a great day. The gift shop is great as well and really quite reasonable. My visa card got a hammering. My eternal gratitued will go out though to the owner of the cafe who could not do enough to help us out. My sympathies must also go out to him as my wife snogged him for helping us...

A fascinating self-guided mini tour is available. You're given an audio guide and headset, which delivers an interesting dialogue that covers the history of slate mining and quarrying in the locality. It's a working environment and is somewhat haphazard, but this adds to the appeal. Slate is everywhere and you may witness pieces being worked on by the staff or work in progress lying about the workshop. You get a chance to try your hand at engraving a piece of slate with a hand-chisel too. A quiz for kids, but I'd be wary of taking very young ones as it's quite an industrial place and could be a hazard to nippers. The cafe is fantastic too. Well...

Sep23 - unfortunately, they kind of let me down recently, as I’ve waited and chased continuously a quote for quite a bespoke piece of slate, and they never came back to me either with the quote, or for any other information. After chasing five or six times I gave up and used Grey Slate & Stone (see my review there) which is sad as they usually great. Consequently, I’ve lowered my rating from a 4 to 2 stars.

Original review: Really helpful and reasonable prices. I had some slate thresholds made to measure and they were beautiful, really edged and finished well and perfect for what I wanted. Would...
