I recently embarked on a trekking adventure with my family to Penygader, and I must say, it stands out as one of the finest trekking routes among the plethora of options Wales has to offer. Without a doubt, it deserves a solid five-star rating.
The scenery along the Penygader trail is simply breathtaking. As we traversed through the rugged terrain, we were treated to awe-inspiring vistas of stunning lakes and picturesque landscapes. The beauty of the surrounding nature truly exceeded our expectations and left us in awe at every turn.
However, I must admit, we encountered a slight hiccup on our descent. Due to a wrong turn, we found ourselves navigating a steep, slippery path downwards. Nevertheless, even this unexpected challenge couldn't detract from the overall splendor of the experience.
Penygader's charm lies not only in its natural beauty but also in the sense of adventure it offers to all who dare to explore its trails. It's a place where unforgettable memories are made and where the wonders of nature come to life in the most spectacular way.
In conclusion, despite the minor setback during our descent, Penygader remains a standout destination for trekking enthusiasts seeking unparalleled beauty and adventure. It's an experience that will forever hold a special place...
Read moreMyself and 11 year old son did the Pony Path up Cader Idris, and it was really good but a lot tougher than I expected, even though we're both pretty fit. The weather wasn't great and it was very low visibility from around 1200ft upwards (despite a decent forecast) which was really disappointing as we were looking forward to the amazing views, and it was also extremely windy at the top. We started at the Ty Nant car park (£6) which was ideal, and used the AllTrails app for navigation, which was perfect. A map and compass is also advisable, just in case the tech fails. The terrain is really mixed and quite steep and difficult at times, especially the last climb to the top which involves a lot of scrambling. We've climbed Pen Y Fan in the past, which is a similar height but this is a lot harder. Hope for the best but make sure you are prepared for the worst - you could very easily get lost, especially in bad weather and we saw quite a lot of people in trainers, shorts and t-shirts which was a terrible idea as it was very windy, cold and wet at the summit (in July!). It took us 4.5 hours there and back and was just over 6.3 miles. Also take plenty of water, as you'll need it. I'd love to do it again one day, to hopefully see the views, but may take a different...
Read moreRight from the off following the Mindfforrd Path you are ascending upwards, there is no gentle easing in period. For us the weather was hot and sunny and just 10 minutes in I was pouring with sweat. I'm asthmatic which makes this journey much tougher than it otherwise would be and it came very close to breaking me as we reached what we thought was the highest peak before realising we still had a climb ahead of us, but the climb was completed after a short break and it was very rewarding. The views are amazing and the path is very easy to follow....but keep to the left 10 minutes in when you come across the slate bridge over the stream....you'll return on the opposite side.
Overall a fantastic day out for the family which even young children of 5-6 years...
