We were visiting our friends in porthgain and arrived late at night in our motorhome and stayed one night in the public car park opposite the gallery. We intended to visit the gallery in the morning but shortly after breakfast the owner of the gallery approached us, and and let us have it with both barrels! He was extremely rude, arrogant, and did not want to enter into any sort of discussion but simply said that we were not welcome in the village, and walked off. All of this because we had parked our motorhome in the public car park and stayed one night. There were no signs prohibiting overnight stays in the motorhome. The gallery owner has no ownership rights over the car park whatsoever, and yet his attitude and tone completely put us off visiting his gallery. I've never been made so unwelcome and so rudely spoken to to when visiting a new place. There is absolutely no way that we would ever consider visiting his gallery given his attitude and the terrible manner in which he spoke to us. Very interesting to see this man's response to my wife's previous post about the same incident. He obviously neglects to mention his own very aggressive and rude behaviour! He talks as if he simply spoke to us in a straightforward manner about no overnight parking in the car park. However, this was not the case at all and he approached us in the most rude and aggressive manner, which interestingly he completely neglects to mention in his reply to my wife's comment. Yes of course we are both ranting about your rude behaviour, how else are we to let the general public know what sort of man...
Read moreThe writers of the review recently who were “gobsmacked” (what an extraordinary word) surely must have felt that they were completely inappropriately dressed for Porthgain as most people in January in that part of Pembrokeshire are attired in walking boots, fleeces and woolly hats so none are superbly “bound book covers”. The clientele of this gallery must be an eclectic mix of tourist, knowledgeable art collectors and those like me who wander in to look and learn and occasionally buy. The purpose of such galleries in the middle of nowhere is patently to foster and promote local talent and the “receptionist” in this case is certainly not arrogant and has always taken time to talk about and inform me on anything that catches my eye even though she may well have guessed that the painting it is perhaps too much above my meagre budget. The reviewers obviously did not understand that in Pembrokeshire as in any other rural area of the UK patience and politeness in waiting till the only assistant is free is key. Obviously they are patently part of the “me...
Read moreAs avid collectors of fine landscape art we were absolutely gobsmacked by the complete lack of attention the gallery assistant showed myself and my fiancée this afternoon. We had our eyes on our first purchase of 2017 but we were flat out ignored by the exceptionally ignorant member of staff.
All she was interested in was showing another customer a photo of a piece of work the gallery had just sold - which quite frankly amazed me! How could a gallery with such incompetent and arrogant staff sell anything?
Yes we may not look like your average art collectors but we were very keen on parting with well over £500 for some original work.
I feel that the owners or managers should think carefully about who they employ to sit at their till, all they need to be able to do is be polite and courteous to anyone and everyone that walks in - after all you should not judge a book...
