We visited these family owned gardens in Hatefield with a group yesterday. My friend was not at all keen (he is not into gardening at all) but I convinced him to go and.. he loved it, especially because the visit started with a detailed presentation on the gardens' history by one of the owners accompanied by a daughter. Her husband could be seen outside pottering around. It was astonishing to hear about the hardship they have been through over the years to bring the ruined estate into a wonderful venue it is now. The talk was followed by a choice of teas and coffees accompanied by a generous portion of one of the three cakes on offer. And then, supplied with a map if we wanted one, we were off to explore the gardens! What joy! I may have been the last to leave! If only there were more people like them who, apart from their careers, have the energy and stamina to embark on a mission to rescue such abandoned places and turn them into a haven of greenery, horticulture and tranquility. There is a lot more I'd like to tell you but work beckons. I'm preparing more of the Talking and...
Read moreWent to garden as friends are always saying how nice it is.i took into account the hot weather has not helped the flowers etc However I m not sure even in full bloom ot was worth the entry fee which I only found out the cost when I got home it was not mentioned when I paid. I am unable to eat cakes a d most of the menu however to queue for approx 40 minutes for a cup of tea and bottle of water is unacceptable either the catering facilities need to be extended or redesigned for quicker service or a menu that is comparable to the facilities. I will say the cakes did look tempting hut they needed to be considering the wait.. I will mot be returning or recommending to visitors. To round the visit off l live about 10 miles away and used public transport and got home quicker than...
Read moreAm absolutely bowled over by the amount of work the owners have put in to restore this garden and the coach house! It's a beautiful creation and is very sympathetic to wildlife and the natural environment. I love the creative way reclaimed materials, including stained glass windows and church organ pipes have been put to use throughout the garden. The tea room serves delicious lunches and cakes and is well worth a visit! We arrived just as the church congregation was leaving and the lane to the gardens was very busy with cars and people trying to walk up to the main road. If going by car, it may be worth arriving later,...
