Read moreThe river and the green spaces here are second to none, you'd think you were in the heart of the countryside, you see Deer, foxes and an array of birds, although I personally don't know my species of bird very well. There is an assortment of lakes to fish in/on (weather and season permitting). Variety of places to picnic, there is a local bird sanctuary, I've never been myself, and there is an old gatehouse, and you can see various birds nesting (season), there is also a lovely little good place, not far from station road, it sells hot and cold food, not to badly priced, and the ladies who serve ate lovely and treat you like an old friend, as opposed to customers, there's indoor seating and outdoor, not to mention a carpark, and picnic area, also on the river front. Adjacent to that is a bike hire place, and a canoe/pedalo/ boat hire place. You can sit near the old mill, of which there are still remnants, imagine that! Its like seeing into a little bit of history. There are public toilets nearby (my first port of call, having a 4 year old). There are plenty of garden type spaces to sit and enjoy the peace, with only the calls of the above mentioned birds. Its truly beautiful. Plenty of spaces for dog walkers, and the food place also put out water for dogs as well!!! They sell home made cakes, etc, and hone made ice cream......

The pub nextdoor (the whole pub) was a wrecking ground for a couple of toddlers on the rampage for nearly an hour. I never once saw a parent or guardian try to reel them in. If anything, ownership was avoided meticulously. I felt obliged to mention this to the barstaff, they smiled, helplessly, nodding towards a scattered group of lifeforms watching a TV screen while cramming in the burgers, chips and ice creams, wearing leopardskin leggings 15 sizes too small (and that was just the males !) The female specimens were clad in thick layers of red & beige paint under massive wigs....
