A beautiful nature reserve in the urban streets! You can almost forget you are in London when you visit the Marshes.
Lots of open space for bike riding, dog walking drone/kite flying, jogging, open air exercise classes - these are just a fraction of the things I have seen people enjoying here.
There is also a canal strewn with beautiful houseboats - if like myself you enjoy seeing all the different quirky styles, decors and eclectic boat names, there is much to see here!
On a practical level there is a reasonably large car park and a lovely little cafe which serves food and hot/cold drinks. Whenever the cafe is open (I'm not sure about it's usual pre pandemic operating hours but has been understandably sporadic during these last few months) it is absolutely packed! Especially at weekends, people will literally be queueing at the door. There is outside seating and is pet friendly.
There are toilets attached to this building which I believe are open for public use during certain hours.
Only negative thing about the Marshes is there can be quite a bit of litter especially along the canal, which kind of spoils the beauty of the nature but it's probably no more or less than you'd see in any other park or wooded area.
As a lone female, I haven't chanced going there at night so I can't comment on what it is like then but if you are familiar with Tottenham as an area already, you can probably use your common sense to figure out what sort of places may or may not be safe for you to hang around/walk through at night. I'm not sure about the whole lock/canal area but there is no lighting at all in the open grassland parts so you will be looking at pitch darkness, so just be very aware if you choose to take a shortcut through there...
Read moreA vital piece of nature in the middle of a concrete jungle! Tottenham marshes is full of bird life and a great place to walk your dog, baby, or just chill out and watch life go by for a while! There are lots of little places to sit and look at the canal. Walk to Waterside Cafe (known locally as the doggie cafe for all the dogs that gather there and the curly brown haired canine manager of the cafe!), grab a breakfast bun or a piece of cake and a coffee. Or head to the cafe in Marks Park a Little further down. Or to the Canalside cafe at Springfield park which is run by a lovely family and is very popular due to the excellent homemade food and service. This canal is a lifeline for me and changes dramatically with the seasons, making it always different and always...
Read moreAside the River Lea Diversion, the wider Navigation canals and Pymme’s Brook find Clendish Marsh. Mostly open scrub and grassland with some bordering narrow litter-strewn woodland. Perhaps of interest to flora & fauna enthusiasts (lookout for the mugwort) and the dog walkers on course, of cause. Also bramble thickets and dense scrub obscure view of river/channel/brook. The towpath segment around Stonebridge Lock hosts a large canal boat community, the ambler an inquisitive invasive species here. "We are all visitors to this time and space. We're just...
