This is an absolute lovely and stunning House and Gardens to visit right on the edge of the Lake District National Park. The estate is owned by a member of the Cavendish Family who have links to the renowned site of Chatsworth, Derbyshire and the estate is fairly vast and keeps you busy with an array of different things to see and for hours on end. The house is of a Elizabethan Gothic influence with part of being rebuilt during the Victorian era following a fire but stills look amazing and stunning and outside and it does not lose its splendour and grandeur. The house on the inside is laid out in a manner of fully functioning Occupied house which has a nice blend of old and new about and does not lose its appeal at all. The rooms that you can see are The Billiards Room, The Drawing Room, The Library, Main Hall and Dining Room on the ground floor and upstairs you can see The Gallery, The Gloucester Bedroom, The Gloucester Dressing Room, Dukes Bedroom, Wedgwood Bedroom, Wedgwood Dressing Room, Queen Mary's Bedroom and Queen Mary's Dressing Room and The Gallery and all of the rooms have an appeal of splendour and opulence about them and there are a number of stunning paintings to see and also furniture to see. The best rooms have to be The Billiards Room as the Snooker Table blends in beautifully with the breathtaking wall paintings and there is a lovely lively feeling about it, The Library due to the lovely modern furniture which blends in well with the book shelves giving it a lovely homely feeling to it and The Queen Mary's Bedroom due to the wonderful stunning bed on show. There are room guides in each of the rooms who are very helpful and friendly and give you some interesting facts about what you are seeing and about the house and family. You can also take photographs inside the house and capture some of those excellent breathtaking rooms on show. The garden themselves are just as good and breathtaking and cover a decent sized and will roughly take approx 2 hours to cover completely but there is an array of stunning things to see including The Woodland Gardens, Oak Lawn, Wildflower Meadow, Neptune, Sundial, Labyrinth, Pagan Grove, Elliptical Garden, Fountain, Cascade, Seesaw and Willow Den. There is a stunning variety of colour from the borders and the Tulips and Rhodenderons displays are absolutely amazing and outstanding. The stand out features have to be The Cascade as it is an absolute breathtaking water feature and blends in beautifully with the rest of the colour from the flower borders and also the Pagan Grove which is a lovely bowel and nice place to relax from walking ground. Other features of note in the garden are The Oldest Line Tree in the UK, which looks amazing and there is some lovely Sequioa Trees to see as well along with Magnolias. The flower gardens near to the house also have a nice RHS Style to them and you can enjoy wonderful towards the House and also the surrounding Parkland. The price of entry into the house and gardens is just over £15 which is very reasonable for a privately owned house and gardens. There is a cafe on side selling a range of food and drink at reasonable prices and also a gift shop selling a wonderful of souvenirs at very reasonable prices. Overall this is an absolutely magnificent and truly stunning and sensational place to visit making for an amazing and outstanding day out. Definitely well worth a visit whilst in the...

We attended the Holker dog show with our 2 hounds and goodness what a cracker. Obviously the setting of the hall and gardens is just absolutely stunning, picturesque and tranquil. Gardens are superb and something for everyone to admire, lots of hidden spots to sit and take it all in. A walk in the deer park left us with photo opportunities to have the back drop of all the stags and deer which were just a delight to see and of course got the children's votes !! The staff were so friendly, cafe area and toilets pristine! Didn't get to try food unfortunately but will definitely return for this. The entertainers that hosted the dog show were a laugh a minute (bread and butter entertainment, Ulverston) gary and Dan made me laugh the most iv laughed in ages and so good with the dogs and the kids !
