Brilliant afternoon with our 2 grandsons...age 4 and 2...the winner was of course Santa but equally toy train table which neither of them would leave....it appeared a big hit with all visiting children. The museum itself is amazing with such a collection of memorabilia we need to return to take it all in. Our greeting on arrival was lovely as was the presentation of our tickets..which included tickets to see Santa and drink with snacks ...our train ride to Santa was magical, our grandson has been wanting to get on a train with slamming doors so he got his wish ....

I did not see many road signs for the museum, which is situated on a farm. On opening days trains run on the short demonstration line; check the website before you go. The ticket office is an old railway carriage, which doubles up as a buffet, which basically sells hot and cold drinks and a few biscuits; best take a picnic. The two museum buildings are packed with loads of artefacts and if you are interested in that kind of thing, you won't mind paying the £8 admission fee for adults. It will keep you occupied for 2-3 hours.

Such a friendly place, with an impressive collection of both rolling stock and many other railway artifacts. Not to mention the train rides available. Be sure to try your hand at the mechanical lever signal box frame and get to grips with interlocking which prevents trains colliding. The whole apparatus was sourced locally from the old Southminster signal box, before modernisation to colour light signalling.

My friend and I visited this weekend. Both of us in our 60s. I used a walker to get round the railway and Museum. Everything was accessible to me and my friend. Excellent toilet facilities. Tea bar inside entrance to museum for snacks and drinks, with seating. Also a lovely range of items for sale in the shop within there. On our arrival we were welcomed by the owners, who were lovely and friendly and chatted to us and told us about the History of how the railway had evolved over the years. All of the Volunteers were very helpful, friendly and informative. I was a bit hesitant while stepping up onto the train, due to my disability. I'd like to say a special Thank You to Robin, who along with my friend, helped me onto and off of the train. Also for providing extensive information about railway history, while we were in the Waiting Room. I highly recommend Mangapps railway. An excellent day out for everyone. Car parking immediately alongside the Railway entrance. Ps ... they also have a good selection of pre-owned books for sale, all at really great prices. THANK YOU ALL AT MANGAPPS FOR AN...

What a find! I always find railways and trains interesting and I was thrilled to discover Burnham-on-Crouch has its own railway museum, complete with working a railway, when I was there on a day out.

What I really liked about the museum is the extensive collection of artefacts presented in a genuine way; there's thought in the presentation, but it's not too polished, as can happen, such that they retain character and tell a story. There was paraphernalia from all over the country (and abroad) and I was thrilled to come across a station name plaque from where I grew up in the Northeast of England. The real train, trundling along the track across farmland was a delight on a sunny day and the working signal levers you can play with were fun. I...

Visited with my 3 year old son, turned up and wasn’t too sure it was open at first! Went in, and was greeted by who I think was the co-owner, very nice lady! As we were the only two there, she arranged for the train to be started so we could go on a train ride. We managed to get our own private train journey down the line and back which my boy loved! we toured the museum and I must say what an amazing amount of railway collections they have! I was shocked by how much they had! The museum is a great size and so much history and collections on view. I would highly recommend this place to any railway enthusiasts. Well worth the visit and the money! 10/10 it’s just a real shame it wasn’t busier! Will definitely return...
