An experience for many. Though it lòoked a very nice sunny day, the clouds started to gather when we got to Malham though what a magnifient day we had. The scenery and colours of the wintry time of year were very beautiful, weha the "girls" with us Jazzie and Angel, we did respect the farmer's notices and put the girls on the leads though when we asked people coming from the opposite direction there were no sheep ! That was it Freedom the girls love it as also Louise and myself. The Waterfall is an amazing feature and so to are the beautiful colours of the water a must for everyone to see 🤓 We carried on through to Gordale Scar and the sun came out that lit up the hillside that enticed us to go further and explore the beautiful valley and towards a greater experience this for you to find out for yourselves. Unfortunately we could go no further as we had the girls with us, though we watched as others climbed the watery waterfalls and disappear out of sight. There is another footpath before the the entry to the scar that would take you right on top, though we knew rain was due and decided to leave. People without dogs and like a little excitement would love this challenge. All day parking on the car park is £4.50 2 hours is around £2.50 Though to enjoy the experience all day is better. We parked on the roadside which is free, as we dont carry a lot of change The tourist infomation centre was closed !! Seems like they only open at weekends !! They could do with someone regularly cleaning the toilets ! The footpaths were very good, a bit slippery on the rocks with the mud around. It was holiday time for the children so a little more busier. What's better to have than a nice little stop and have a cup of tea for Louise and a hot chocolate for me from a lovely lady in the butty van though the lady did sell a lot more than drinks, the aroma I thought was lovely ☺ Love to hear your stories and experience of this lovely little place 🤓💚

Climbed the waterfall, you should too!! I watched so many people not climb the waterfall and not experience its hidden beauty. i have marked out on one of my photos the route i took (i do not recommend anyone to do this but if you do, knowing this will make it safer and easier) it is not a hard climb if you are fit and steady on your feet. there are really good hand holes and places to put your feet. start at the bottom middle of the waterfall, and climb up to the left until you get over the boulder. this is your first rest point. after that. there are clear hand and feet holes for you to use. from there you are aiming to get over to the left side of the waterway, so stay between that running water until you are away from the egde and just step over. then keep to your left and head up until you see the steps from here you can see both waterfalls...also an amazing place to have a snack! Warning - it is a leg burner! IMO, this was a very easy climb and well worth it, i didnt feel unsafe or at risk at any time. the warter wasnt flowing too hard and i also guided two others up at the same time has climbing myself. it was the first time for the others and they did it. after asking them they said it was a mid level climb for them. once again i do not reommend anyone to do this climb, and will not be held accountable. you follow this at your own risk.

🌄🏞️🌿 A Hidden Gem in the Yorkshire Dales! I visited Gordale Scar in June 2024 for the first time, and it was a truly striking and beautiful experience. The serenity of the landscape is incredible, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers and hikers. I was on a solo hiking trip around Malham, and Gordale Scar was one of the stops on the Malham Landscape Trail—a 4.5-mile, 3-hour, circular route that showcases some of the best natural scenery in the area. Finding Gordale Scar was easy, especially with the well-signposted walking routes around Malham. I recommend parking at the Yorkshire Dales National Park Car Park Malham, as it can get quite busy during peak times. One convenient amenity was the Gordale Refreshments food truck, located close to the start of the track. It's a great spot to grab a bite or a drink before or after your hike. Fans of "The Witcher" might be excited to know that Gordale Scar was featured in the Netflix series, adding to its allure with its dramatic cliffs and rugged beauty. Overall, Gordale Scar is a must-visit for anyone exploring the Yorkshire Dales. The dramatic cliffs and lush surroundings make it a memorable stop on any hiking adventure. Don't forget to bring your camera to capture the stunning views!

This is a stunning location to explore, and it offers incredible views that reward every step of the climb. If you’re thinking of bringing your dog along, it’s essential to keep in mind that while dogs are allowed, it’s generally not recommended to take them past the first waterfall. The path beyond becomes quite steep and rocky, making it challenging and potentially unsafe for them. Carrying a pet in these conditions could also be risky, so it’s best to assess whether they’ll be comfortable and safe. On my visit, I ventured beyond the waterfall and ascended an additional 93 meters. Despite the path being steep and the wind adding to the difficulty, the journey was absolutely worth it. The view from the top was nothing short of breathtaking, providing a unique perspective of the surrounding landscape and a sense of solitude that made the effort feel even more rewarding. For anyone planning to tackle this climb, I highly recommend preparing well. Sturdy footwear, sufficient water, and checking the weather conditions in advance are essential for a safe and enjoyable experience. It’s a physically demanding but immensely fulfilling adventure, offering sights that will stay with you long after you’ve returned.

Walked up pass Janet's Foss to the scar from Malham. Then over to the tarn and back down to the cove. About 6miles. Nice and flat on the top over to the tarn. Nice walk to the scar, warms you up for the climb up the scar, don't be fooled tho, you do have to hang on a bit when climbing up the rockface. I don't want to put anyone off because the challenge is worth it, my two girls 8 & 6 years old smashed it with our guidance, but if you are either afraid of heights or unsteady on your feet, probably one to avoid. Still worth the walk to see the scar and waterfall, because it's spectacular. Plenty of folk where there to see it then head back. We went on May bank holiday and the sun was out, so the water level was down, I bet it's incredible when there's been a week or so of rain. We'll be back after the inevitable summer floods to see it again. Get out there and do it!!!!
