There's plenty to do here at a reasonable price, and a great place for anyone to come and enjoy a day out. There is plenty of parking available that was easy to access and quiet, even on a sunny weekend.
The ruins are really interesting to wonder around with some information dotted here and there. The house itself is extremely impressive from the outside (sadly didn't get to go inside) and the grounds are stunning with a variety of planes, forests and trails to fit almost everyone's tastes. Apparently it's quite a popular place for mountain biking and after wondering through the surrounding hills you can really see why - whilst being the only ones hiking up the fire trails we even encountered some deer, not something I thought I'd see in the (sort of) wild in the UK
The farm trail was quite fun to wonder through and read about the different animals, a bigger variety would be been better but they all seemed to be very well cared for and the families there with young kids were definitely enjoying themselves.
The shops were a tad lacking in variety and the staff serving were extremely slow - this is probably the only criticism of the entire day, and a minor one at that. Honestly, for just over £5 for parking (free entry) there is so much to do and see here, you don't mind paying the extra for the other activities that they offer. There's a go-ape in the forest by the house and they run different activities like paddle boarding, so it's worth checking ahead of time if you want to book on
Super day out, highly recommend overall! Just remember to bring water, the grounds...
Read moreMargam is always a nice day out and the weather couldn't have been better. There were a few small things I noticed which made it a four star day. The children's area ( fairytale land) could do with some TLC as some of the items were broken which could cause injury to the kids (Dr Who tardis especially). A lot of the areas were closed off for maintenance , or had signs saying no access etc which put me off a bit. The animals look really well looked after and have large areas to roam in which was great to see. The castle itself is impressive from the outside but a real let down on the inside having only a small room to look at, should invest more into getting it up to standard (could charge more for entry then). The gardens are nice and were well kept, not too sure charging £1 for a licence to take photos in the church though. The train was quite pricey too at £2.40 per adult and £1.20 for children, could add up if you have a few kids. Ice cream stands charge £2.20 a scoop which I think is a bit excessive, but overall a nice day out just make sure you have a bit of cash to spare as...
Read moreI like Margam country park because it's on my doorstep with deer to view at close quarters. I enjoy the relative solitude I can find when I wander away from the more popular lowland paths. Its less quiet now than it used to be because the park has been opened up to mountain bikers, something that doesn't bother me as long as efforts are maintained to ensure they keep to permitted oaths and areas and remember that the general public have the same rights as them to use the park. As always it's there who let the bikers down, the vast majority are respectful of other uses and follow the guidelines. I speak as someone who also does a bit of biking so my view indicates that some bikers themselves care and are aware of their responsibilities. Within the park there is ample room for all, with photographers, birdspotting, walking, horse-riding, fishing, dog-walking etc all catered for to some degree. For the more energetic there's always 'Go Ape" Its also well worth looking around the 'castle' itself and delving into its...
