What an incredible gem of a enigmatic garden and bonsai centre to visit in the beautiful Cornish Hamlet of Mawgan, with an abundance of quaint tea rooms and delightful country pub… the Japanese water and koi garden in the centre of the village is very easy to get to with free parking and an incredible Japanese shop and garden centre hosted by the extremely helpful and knowledgable resident Bonsai expert ‘Will’ and the creative gardener ‘Angela’ whom for both could not have gone any further to have made our visit so unique and special. We were completely lost in the beauty, tranquility, design and landscaping of the gardens and water features, but when it came to the Bonsai and Japanese garden ornaments in sheer abundance we were truly taken by the real beauty of this in that we could take a piece home. The service is so incredible we were able to choose a small affordable very beautiful Bonsai, with all the care and explanation needed by Will in how to maintain and really enjoy keeping and growing the specimen Japanese yew. A free service was so kindly provided to choose a different colour, shape and slightly larger handmade bonsai container, and under the watchful expertise of Will, Angela put her unique gardening and micro crafting abilities into action and created the most stunning beautiful individual piece of Japanese living art for us to take home. We cannot recommend enough a visit to this attraction and taking up the experience of having your own unique Bonsai miniature garden created for you in front of your eyes, With miniature monolith rocks and even bonsai mint our new Japanese yew that now looks like it would have cost hundreds of pounds rather than just £89! Absolute incredible value, truly incredible service and personalised experience and tranquil place to spend time relaxing and contemplating. Now we have got it home safe we have added our own Jade Buddha for that even more personal...

Went to the nursery today with the intention of buying a new pot for my potensai, some akadama, and buy a new maple. I did not have time to go through the gardens so went directly into the shop through the open door. I casually walked towards the outdoor trees and my wife over heard, who we can only presume was the owner, say "I guess I had better move the no entry sign nearer the door, as you have to make it blatantly obvious to some people these days". Upon hearing my wife say what she had heard, we turned and went straight out of the door we came in. I'm afraid bonsai nursery that yes you do have to make it obvious. You lost a customer to day and quite possibly for all time. Next time make it clear you want people to pay to go through the garden and into the shop to spend more money. I am very disappointed, next time try talking to your customers instead of muttering behind them. I really wanted to support you as a local business, but hay ho amazon...

Found this hidden gem as we were booked in for an afternoon tea in a nearby hotel so thought we'd try and make a day of it. It was very peaceful as I expected, I thought the £5 entry fee was a bit much, considering you can walk round the entire place in probably 10 minutes. I took my camera as I thought there would be some nice photo opportunities, maybe there would be more during August or September? But there wasn't as much colour as I thought there would be either in all honesty, we visited in mid-july. Love the japanese feel with the bamboo railings, the impressive bonsai trees, nice pond with koi carp, the wooden huts/shelters, and tranquil seating areas. I am on the fence with whether I would visit again to be honest though. Lovely place for a small walk in a...

Part of the one way path was totally flooded. A fact that the person at the door didn't mention until after taking our money. Other then that the place just felt run down and more of a Chinese garden then a Japanese one. I didn't see anything to do with shinto. Sad thing is it could be a nice place. It felt like it could have been nice a few years ago but whoever runs the place has fallen out of love with it. Which is best shown by the image below. Looks like they got 10% of the way in to raking the place and just gave up. 🤔 Showed a Japanese friend a few pictures and he found it hilarious. Commenting that the British do Japanese Gardens just as well as the Japanese do Fish and Chips. Which is to say the least, not very well.
