We decided to travel by car up to this area of outstanding natural beauty. The views are breath-taking and your imagination and senses can begin to take you back to a place and time when things were a lot simpler. There are dwellings scattered along the roadside and it makes one think how ' lucky it would be to wake up every day to see these views and breathe in the fresh air , and hear the calls of nature'. Once at the top of the Hill one cannot be disappointed, even if the view can be on some days shrouded by Mother Nature's mist or clouds, there are woods that just scream out to be explored, woodland trails to be walked. Your children could learn about the wonders of nature and your pets could stroll by your side without the noise of traffic or everyday life. It is a retreat from the noise a place of comtemplation. However be prepared there are no public toilets or refreshment facilities. There is access for all parking although ( Disabled Parking spaces are limited). Please also be aware that it could be quite difficult underfoot in places and some paths and trails would not be...

Beautiful place with fantastic views across Monmouthshire towards Abergavenny, the Sugar Loaf, Blorenge and Skirrid. The building is a fairly small round banqueting house built in the 1790s. It has been extensively restored by the National Trust to bring it back to its original glory. There is a reasonably sized carpark although the access road is narrow steep and winding. Nearby is a naval monument. The property is surrounded by lovely woods with footpaths to wander through. When we visited there were English bluebells in flower. Admission to the building is Β£3. The attendants on duty were very knowledgeable and interesting to talk to. Well...

We walked up from Broadstone campsites, where FYI they serve amazing home cooked pizzas & muffins which you can eat on site. The views were truely stunning all the way up. Shame a person trying their luck had parked their massive campervan in the disabled bays, no disable sticker on view, and were enjoying a picnic to the rear overlooking the view. Would have been nicer for all of us if he'd used the car park. πŸ˜‰ Needless to say the views are well worth the walk or drive and it's lovely to just sit and watch the world go by. The circular walk back to the campsite took...

Nothing can prepare you for the spectacular view from this place. After driving up a fairly steep, mainly single track road, you arrive in a wooded car park. Still unaware of what is 100 yards away you will be gobsmacked by the amazing view and the intriguing folly which stands at the top of the hill. If there's ever a place to go to contemplate then this is it. I could post a photo but it wouldn't do it justice and would spoil the surprise. So here's just a snippet.

Beautiful views across to Monmouth. A steep and narrow approach road makes access a modest challenge but once there it's a lovely quiet place. The memorial is interesting, but the house was still closed. Both appeared somewhat incongruous as they look like they should be by the sea, and not on top of a hill. Worth a hour of anyone's time if you're in the area.
