Heatwave and Met Uk adverse weather warning all week 🌞🌞🌞. Arrived at yurt 40c++ with young children. No Windows and highly insulated. Despite the extreme high temperatures being foreseeable by owners nothing was done to mitigate this. This meant we could not enter to sleep until perhaps midnight with young children and little shade outside, so we packed up noting the gas fridge would not cool in three hours there. Owners offered some bunk bed type accommodation with strict covid rules as area shared with a large group of people learning there all week. However, I am extremely clinically vulnerable to covid and this makes the alternative accommodation totally unacceptable as well as incomparable and ridiculously not what we booked. So despite a covid guarantee being in place, no extreme and unsafe temperatures consideration was made. The owners would not consider any type of refund, so unfortunately despite my very supportive attitude towards community initiatives such as this I cannot give anything but the lowest score rating. I suggest buying portable air conditioning and extension cable for this rare extreme temp situation or graciously cancel booking until another time as you would if covid struck. We left and lost our entire holiday booking paid up front. Also note to reach the yurt you had to negotiate an electric fence and with young children that is unsafe and should be pre-advised. We are however from rural area, so managed this but should...
Read moreI'm really grateful to have access to organic meat.
The meat tastes really good.
FYI I have never had a problem in this regard but it seems that by the time I get the boxes delivered they seem like they would not last much longer.
The reason I gave it a 4 and not 5 is the fact that I once tried to change my delivery from normal to pre-12 due to work commitments but it actually came through as normal despite me having confirmed the new delivery time on more than one occasion. (It did actually come on time but that's not the point - I spoke to the delivery guy and it was just luck as it was processed as standard).
Also if I spend over a certain amount, normal delivery is free but for pre-12 (which costs £5 more) I have to pay the full price which is £15. I don't see why I can't just pay the £5 difference for pre-12 delivery, especially when I am ordering sometimes £300 worth of food at a time.
Overall I want to end positive as I have spoken with them on the phone and they were helpful for sure and I felt like they were doing their best and I have been very happy with the quality of...
Read moreWhat a find !!!!! Popped in here for a mid-journey brew. So glad we did.
This place is a little agricultural oasis that's now so much more than just an organic farm. They were in fact England's first community owned farm.
They are now a true community integrated facility. They provide education, volunteering opportunities as well as running a youth project and a care farm.
For visiting families there are 3 farm trails, a farm shop and our primary reason for stopping Arthur's Kitchen, the café.
We visited the shop and couldn't resist the range of farm fresh sausages on offer. We also treated ourselves to one of the frozen large pies. (Since had this lamb & mint and it was packed with meat and was delicious)
All in all a thoroughly worthwhile place to visit. Ideally a family would spend quite a time here and explore the trails.
They even have a number of ways you can holiday here or hold an event. Probably one of the most enterprising businesses I've seen in a long time. Good luck to Ben and Charlotte Hollins for the continued success of this...
