I can absolutely see the potential here, and look forward to visiting in season as there were barely any animals and of course no flowers being winter. I can imagine the gardens will look completely different next time! I found the cafe rather disappointing though. No table service, and even with table numbers, you have to go up and collect your own food and wait for your hot drinks. Easy for some, absolutely not ideal for mums with toddlers as you have to leave them to wait and collect your food. I have 1 year old twins, and this would have been impossible had I not had someone with me. I was even asked by a couple if they could sit anywhere, as I clearly looked like staff carrying food to a table. The sandwiches were also dripping in margarine. That is not needed with wet fillings. Chutney/brie & cranberry, etc, is ruined with that butter, and the sandwich kept falling apart. Maybe an option when ordering? There was an abundance of staff. Your food being bought to your table should be a very easy switch. Perhaps a few things mentioned could be worked on, and it would be so much better. The table was then cleared whilst we went back up to order cake, meaning my twins sandwich was taken, and half of my coffee, though our things were still there so we hadn't left...

Visited here today for the bug trail, such fun for the children who could pick from a lovely selection of prizes when completed. Kids enjoyed it & was only £3.00 per child. There is no charge to visit the gardens as yet although they do have donation boxes around the gardens, which i think is fair condidering the work that must go into the upkeep of the grounds. I'st time visit & very impressed with the beautiful large gardens , plants on offer for sale which are a fair price. A small gift shop with lots to choose from. Beautiful place & very family orrientated which offer fun experience for kids & adults alike. It was half term so was quite a lot of familys taking advantage of the bug Trail & gardens. There is a lovely play area for kids & picnic tables along with lots of green space to enjoy. We loved it. We ate lunch & food was fresh & tasty along with hot , fresh coffee. Lots of choice from the Dove cafe menu & pricing was fair. There is so much to do here for everyone to enjoy, especially the family orrientated events they put on. Enjoyable & impressive. Cant wait to return when the suns out in full swing. Great place for a picnic or just sit & enjoy this little gold mine in Moreton. Plenty of parking too. This place is dog friendly & dogs...

Wedding Review

There is no doubt that this is a beautiful venue and our wedding ceremony was lovely and the food was good but unfortunately that’s where the positives end.

The wedding co-ordination was seriously lacking and I would NOT recommend you have your wedding reception here. We had planning meetings and agreed things that never happened on the day. I advise you get everything in writing because they won’t admit any of their failings even though there were a few of us present in the planning conversations! The wedding coordinators had left before I even arrived for our ceremony so when the problems started there was no one to sort them as the gentleman running the staff wasn’t involved in the planning meetings. The waiting staff appeared inexperienced or just didn’t know what they were doing, I also don’t think skinny jeans and t-shirts are appropriate uniform for a wedding. The “goodwill” gesture that has been given will not fix the issues that should not have happened in the first place and that the explanations given for the issues were clearly lies to fob us off. Be careful booking your wedding reception here you only get one day and we wish we had gone...

We first went for an extensive walk at the Maiden Castle ancient earthworks near Dorchester to work up an appetite!! And arrived at the walled garden, Moreton at the Dovecote Cafe for an English High Tea (book in advanced). We were extra hungry as we had skipped meals for this treat. This was the most well presented...delicately assorted, sumptuous feast we have ever had for a "high tea". We've previously had many high teas...but this one (excuse the pun) takes the cake. A whole layer of well chosen savouries, then the middle layer of light yummy cakes (so dainty) and of course...the top tier of scones with a "side" of clotted cream and strawberry jam. The place settings and crockery were typically English and we felt "rather grand" eating this treat. It was worth every cent !..The walled gardens are small but fascinating with visiting artists installations and sculptures on display. They have a fabulous children's play area and a few farm animals ...as well as other interesting animals. The Dovecote Cafe was well laid out and the food on the menu looked just as impressive as the "High Tea"...We will definitely be going back.
