I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction and disappointment with the recent experience my family and I had at Nefyn Golf Club. My daughter, who is wheelchair-bound, was eager to visit the beautiful beach at Ty Coch Inn after hearing about its beauty and seclusion from us. However, our visit was marred by a series of unfortunate and frustrating events that left us feeling distressed and let down by the lack of compassion and assistance from your staff.

Prior to our visit, I contacted Nefyn Golf Course to inquire about the possibility of accessing the road that leads to the beach, as it is on your property. The lady in the office informed me that they did not have access to open the boom gate and advised me to contact the National Trust. Upon doing so, the National Trust assured me that we could gain access to drop my daughter off and did not foresee any issues with the golf club either. Based on this information, we planned our visit and booked a nearby campsite, confident that we would be able to provide my daughter with a pleasant experience.

Unfortunately, when we arrived on Saturday, our experience was quite the opposite. We were told by Nefyn Golf Club staff that they could not allow us to drive through the boom gate to drop my daughter off, despite the National Trust’s assurance. Instead, we were told to use a taxi service, which was impractical given the short distance (a mere 2-minute ride) and the unavailability of taxis at that time. The lady at the bar, who was quite rude, refused to help and insisted that they could not make any exceptions, even as a taxi driver was allowed through the gate due to a malfunctioning fob.

Adding to our frustration, the lady provided me with a flyer listing contact numbers for the National Trust, the Station, and Ty Coch Inn. However, neither the Station nor Ty Coch Inn numbers connected, leaving us with only the National Trust number, which we had already contacted. I requested the lady to confirm our permission with the National Trust, but she refused to do so while simultaneously opening the boom gate for a taxi driver.

Determined not to disappoint my daughter, I attempted to push her wheelchair down the rocky and uneven path, a task that proved to be extremely challenging and dangerous. My daughter fell out of her wheelchair twice, and it was only with the help of kind members of the public that we managed to continue. This experience was not only physically taxing but also emotionally distressing for my daughter and myself.

On a positive note, when it was time to leave the beach, one of the members at Ty Coch Inn saw us struggling and kindly allowed my son to fetch the car, providing us with the fob to do so. This act of kindness was greatly appreciated and highlighted the stark contrast in the level of assistance and empathy shown by the staff at Nefyn Golf Club.

The lack of empathy and flexibility shown by your staff is unacceptable. We were not looking to abuse any privileges but simply requested brief access to safely drop off my daughter, as suggested by the National Trust. The refusal to accommodate this reasonable request, despite the clear human need, demonstrated a shocking disregard for the well-being and dignity of my daughter.

I urge you to reconsider your policies and training to ensure that in the future, individuals with disabilities and their families are treated with the compassion and respect they deserve. No family should have to endure the physical and emotional strain that we experienced due to the rigid and insensitive application of rules.

I will be sharing this experience with the National Trust, the Welsh Council, and on social media to raise awareness of the need for better accessibility and humane treatment at Nefyn Golf Club. I hope that you take this feedback seriously and make the necessary changes to prevent such incidents...

Where do I start ?

The only reason this course isn't a regular venue for tournaments is it is remote which is a positive as it relatively easy to get a tee time

The staff are welcoming especially the office and clubhouse staff

Maybe the Pro wasn't so maybe he'd had some mishap that day

We played The Point 9 holes in the morning and it rained which tainted our view of that experience and felt it was not for us .

Maybe in better weather and NO wind we may have formed a different opinion

What made the golf even more difficult was the observance of safety measures to avoid the HUNDREDS of walkers and siteseers. The courtesy we showed to these members of public was not acknowledged or reciprocated.

A good portion of these walkers did not keep to any of the paths or gravel roads and seemed to take great delight in stopping to maximise the disruption

Make your own mind up but none of the eight of us expressed a wish to play it again

The afternoon was a different kettle of fish it was such an enjoyable 18 holes on the Championship course off the yellow tees in dry but windy conditions

The course plays long then short as you turn into then down wind and the greens were true but not too fast and the views all the while are wonderful if a little of a distraction.

On reflection 2 rounds on the Championship if you're capable would be the ideal day after the road trip to get there.

Apologies for the ramblings of...

WILL NEVER GO BACK!

I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Nefyn golf club. I visited the club with my partner and my father, who is disabled. We parked in a designated Blue Badge bay and clearly displayed his valid Blue Badge in full compliance with the rules. I spent time touring the course—considering membership—and we later visited the clubhouse for drinks.

Weeks later, I was shocked to receive a parking charge notice. I immediately contacted the club to explain the situation, assuming this was a simple oversight that could be easily corrected. Instead, I was met with a dismissive and unprofessional response from the manager, Darren. His lack of concern and unwillingness to engage constructively was unacceptable.

This entire incident reflects poorly on the club’s approach to customer service and accessibility. It’s especially disheartening given that this visit was intended to explore potential membership. Based on this experience, I will not be returning, and I would strongly caution others—particularly those with accessibility needs—before visiting.

What could have been a positive introduction to the club was completely undermined by poor management and a lack of...

This course is absolutely amazing. A must play! The views are unreal, you’re playing golf on the side of a cliff right next to the sea. There is 27 holes on offer, you can play them all or choose the 18 you want to play. Make sure you play “the point” as this is the old course that has the incredible views and goes right out to the sea. “The point” is unavailable to play after 9:00am on weekends and during school holidays due to the path that runs around it. It can get dangerous for those people if golf is being played. The wind can pick up quite a bit. Ensure you take lots of golf balls because you will most definitely lose a few! There is also a pub on the beach called “Tŷ Coch Inn” which is situated right next to the old course. Definitely a place for a pint after your round.

Wow Wow Wow. This golf course is of the scale, 1st things 1st, the golf pro in the shop, what a helpful guy he Was, so helpful and a fellow golfer who seemed to want you to enjoy your round of golf at his course. Thank you 10/10. The course, people say you say WOW a lot when you play it and not oh boy you do, such a lovely place to play golf and the course was in great shape, even while playing we got talking to club members who where happy to talk to us and help us play there course. This place is fantastic. We will be returning as soon as we can, 3 hour drive from Manchester, but we will be back soon. Food and service in bar was great. Reasonable price and great service Overall this club get a 10/10 from me and my fellow golfer. Thank you from Mr Derek Comer

Ive plaued some great courses this year BUT this Nefyn GC is absolutely gorgeous. What a golf course. It has 3, 9 hole courses. Front/yellow. New/red. Old/blue. So we played all 27 golf holes. Theres some tough holes especially depending on which way the wind blows, and believe me it can blow! But all 27 holes have brilliant greens and fairways, most have generously wide fairways and punishing rough. The Old/blue holes are out on a peninsula and are spectacular, playing over cliffs with waves crashing against rocks next to An RNLI station which has a tee mat for a fantastic par 3. If anybody reading this review is thinking of going to Nefyn. ITS A MUST.
