This is actually one of the best forests I've been to. It's truly beautiful. There's a large car park - postcode NG21 9QB Payment is by cash or card. You can use the " pay by phone " app, but there's zero phone signal, so unless paid for beforehand it won't work. Come out of the car park and cross the road. Nearby there's a little courtyard with a cluster of shops and a cafe. Further forward you'll find the visitors centre. ( great place to start from ) Here there's a shop, another cafe and some toilets. Dogs welcome. There are boards up outside showing you coloured walks, so you can choose how far you wish to walk, and how long it takes. Most people choose the shorter walks, so if you want peace and quiet, go for the longer one. A lovely place to visit, very well kept. Dogs advised to go on leads, unless far from other people. Litter bins about. Events board shows what's happening. Paths are relatively easy, although muddy. Walking boots, or shoes, even wellies advised. Do NOT touch the red mushrooms...

Sherwood Forest Country Park is your gateway into a stunning historical forest, home to the legendary outlaw Robin Hood and some incredible ancient giant oak trees, including the Major Oak. Managed and protected by the RSPB and partners, the Forest is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. When you visit Sherwood, you’re supporting and preserving this valuable forest for the future. The visitor center includes a café, two shops, toilets, and a short film show about the history of Sherwood Forest and the Nottinghamshire Dukeries. You can explore the native oak and birch woodland, interspersed with heathland and grassland, via waymarked paths. Don’t miss the woodland walk to the Major Oak, where many of the oak trees are veterans several hundreds of years old. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, history buff, or simply seeking a peaceful escape, Sherwood Forest offers a memorable experience. 🌳🏹

Robin Hood series When I was a kid, I looked forward to the release of a new episode every week and watched it with love. Sherwood forests, which are constantly mentioned in the series This forest is located in Nottinghamshire. Robin Hood has been the subject of many movies, books, cartoons and games. Robin Hood is a hero who steals the wealth of the rich and distributes them to the poor. One of his best assistants is Little John. I walked in this forest today, I was very excited for myself, there were dozens of activity stands, the officials attracted a lot of attention with their historical clothes, the walk in the forest was very enjoyable, oak trees become a natural umbrella on a hot day, the children also have a lot of fun, you can spend time all day long.

I reviewed the Visitor Centre separately (and maybe was a little harsh!) but the forest itself was brilliant. We had a lovely walk around all the trails that snakes through the woodland, with the Major Oak being the centre of attention. My only criticism is that some of the signs were damaged or missing, making it difficult to find your way around. At one point I had to use Google Maps on my phone to see where we were! However, we really enjoyed our walk and plan to go back one day soon. It was impressive to see how well the woodlands are being managed, and we learnt a great deal about what was being done, along with how and why. It would be helpful to have better/more signs or trail markers around, but that was my only issue with Sherwood Forest.

Amazing times! Parking was very easy to find and short walk to Visitor Centre. There are few cottage like stores on the way with beautiful hand crafted goods, specially hand made leather notebooks. Staff at Visitor Centre was friendly and directions given were very clear. There is coffee shop with some tasty snacks, breakfast bacon baps, cakes and much more…and my favourite Sam Pellegrino drinks 💚💚 (little pricier - but they support locals and the forest). We chose the longest red track but it was easy to achieve and signs were clear. To our surprise there was field at the end with unique longhorn cattle, truly fascinating! If coming with kids there is small but fun playground made of wood, as well as ice cream van. Beautiful experience

We spent ten days in a lodge in the middle of the forest, which was beautiful, but especially at the weekend we literally had to get in the car and go somewhere else to have a quiet walk with our dogs. This forest has been taken over by cyclists. There are no dedicated footpaths. Only shared cycle paths. Although respect is demanded, we all know this is not how people operate, especially not tourists, several times my dog was almost run over by cyclists. If you wanna have amazing biking holidays this place is great. Nottinghamshire has beautiful countryside to offer, take your dogs elsewhere for a dog friendly holiday.
