This is a beautiful country walk in the middle of the busy Newcastle Borough. It feels like you are far away from the hustle and bustle of daily, city life. There are many different walks available to take and I have been going there for a couple of years but still find new parts to explore. It does state that dogs must be on a lead around the cafe, visitor centres and the miniature railway, obviously, and in a few areas it states dogs must be under close control. To be honest as soon as I am away from the car park areas, of which there are two, I always let my dogs off and providing they don't cause any problems for anyone I've never experienced any negativity. There are toilets in the cafe area but during Covid these have been closed. Apedale gets quite busy at the weekends as it is such a beautiful place to visit, but in the week it is usually very tranquil with only a few dog walkers or joggers. I definitely would give Apedale a visit if you have never been.

Very impressed with the cafe and museum. Theres even a train there that starts to run in the spring and you can go on an underground mine tour which was open yesterday. Didn't expect all these things as we just looking for somewhere different to walk (we are from Newport Shropshire) and impressed with the different things the country park offered plus free parking. Excellent food in the cafe at a good price and very nice people who work there. Museum was free and very informative, lots of interesting displays. Lots of walks. We parked at the top car park and walked down to cafe. All easily accessible. Will be back to do a mine tour and go on the trains in the spring. (Baked pot with tuna mayo £3.50, very good choc brownie £1.50. Plus various hot puddings!)

The Blue Wheel Mineing Monument Apedale Community Country Park, on a day like today 25th Dec 2023. 08.45hrs. Clear Skys, hardly any wind mild temperature and no rain. Everything is silent except for the birdsong and the occasional dog barking in the distance. The view over the surrounding area is magnificent. A time to just sit and think about life in general, people you have lost through bereavement or ill considered words, people you still have and do not want to lose, to let them know before it is too late that you love them. This is the place to contemplate all these things in solitude. It is right on our doorstep and is free....
