Carr Vale Nature Reserve — Attraction in North East Derbyshire

First and last time visiting. I visit a lot of nature reserves but I have never been to one with so much litter strewn about, it was a mess! broken bottles, sheets of metal, rolled up wire, plastics and takeaway containers real hazards for wildlife. During our walk around we encountered 3 groups of teenagers that made us feel very uncomfortable. Walking too close behind us drinking alcohol and just intimidating in general. Obviously that's no reflection on the reserve but it was enough to make me never want to go back....

If you're a twitcher, and I'm not referring to any medical condition there, and enjoy a peaceful hideaway with your spotter or binoculars then this is for you and, to be honest, I found this Derbyshire wetland nature reserve to be absolutely amazing! A smallish (15 vehicles) car park at the end of Riverside Way, Bolsover will be your ideal spot to access both Peter Fidler nature reserve and Carr Vale before heading onwards to Stockley Trail. We started in Peter Fidler nature reserve and walked into this one. Nice area, but disappointed there wasn't a circular route round the water. Also sad that on this stretch of our walk it appears that dogs need to take a break, shame they are not cleaned up after by the owners...
