Sadly, we're losing this stretch of coastline to erosion at what appears to be quite a rate - take heed of the safety barriers, but that aside, a great location to stop for a walk, picnic off the well constructed car park, and take snaps of the lighthouse.

Car parking (plenty) isn't too expensive, no app options when we went but card and coin payments accepted. Screen was a bit poor on the machine though. On site toilets which were reasonably clean and well appointed.

Children's adventure play ground alongside a local area history trail. Go down the coast along the beach to see the sand martins swooping in and out of the cliff top. At the far end, climb up the dune to reach the cliff top walk along the farmers field and explore the look-out bunkers on the edge and in land near the lighthouse. Watch the edge of the path and keep dogs and children under control up there.

From the top from the car park cliff top watch out for the seals basking in the shallows!

Warning: the road to the car park and the entrance to the car park is narrow! Nearby road closed signs are there for a reason - there is no longer any road...

Booked tickets in advance via the website for a tour of the lighthouse. A simple process with email delivery within seconds. After being met at the door, the team offered our son a chance to have a go at their paper based quiz. This is a great idea for families as it encourages the kids to take in some of the history and information about the building. After climbing the 90+ steps to the control room (I won't say exactly how many - it is a quiz question!), a little history of why the lighthouse is located where it is. Then up the very steep, almost ladder like steps to the top! The views are spectacular and well worth the climb. A great experience made all the better by a superb team of knowledgeable volunteers and guides. If you are thinking of visiting, details of open days are posted on Facebook or their website. Do read the very sensible restrictions though - they are in place for...

Happisburgh is a truly special place that captures the natural beauty and charm of the Norfolk coast. The beach is absolutely fantastic – wide, peaceful, and unspoiled, with stunning views in every direction. Whether you’re taking a long walk, enjoying a bit of beachcombing, or just sitting back and soaking up the sea air, it’s the perfect spot to unwind.

The iconic red-and-white striped lighthouse adds a unique character to the landscape. It’s not only beautiful to look at, but also steeped in history. If you get the chance to visit when it’s open, the views from the top are breathtaking and well worth the climb.

Happisburgh feels like a real hidden gem – less crowded than other coastal spots but just as impressive. A great place for a peaceful day out, whether you’re exploring with family, walking the dog, or just looking for some time by the sea.

Highly...
