living close by its a great place to get away from traffic noise and get good fresh air and exercise. There are 4 colour coded walks from Belvoir Forest entrance carpark. They would be awkward to do with a pram. People use them to give their dogs a long walk. I like to walk or jog and enjoy especially the early mornings and bird chatter. The river Lagan towpath borders the forest which is also a lovely walk. The Lockkeepers cottage and Shaws Bridge are just adjacent which are accessible for prams. From the towpath you can walk /cycle to Stranmillis and a further 20 mins walk will take you to Belfast city centre. Following the Lagan towpath to the opposite direction from Shaws Bridge follows the meandering River right the way to the town of Lisburn, a good 7 miles away. Read moreVisited 03/01/2023 well signposted and plenty of parking on site and adjacent if needed. I would highly recommend bringing your wellies as once the accessible paths finish as you get deeper into the forest then you come across the muddy trails/paths. We took a pram for the granddaughter but at some points was pulling it backwards through muddy paths so would suggest a carrier for young ones. Our little one loved the watery puddles, plenty of them to jump around in. A great place to visit and lots of tree cover for when it was rainy. There were other paths which we didn’t explore but there is decent walks to be had and plenty of dog walkers with very excited dogs...

This is a fantastic forest, with wide areas of Heather, shrubbery and wild floral carpets, interspersed with pine and birch. Efforts are being made to maintain the natural beauty and the forest is well nurtured. Although like many areas there still exists disrespectful dog 💩 owners, the trails are generally clean and safe for walkers, cyclists and young adventurous children. Basically remains untouched by the grotesque concrete “attractions” that Belfast advertises and is definitely a justified location for a family day out.. “It's when forests stop breathing that man...
